If you're in AAA for a couple years, you typically aren't making much of an impact in the Bigs. Not always the case, and is a little different with pitchers. Position players that spend a bunch of time in AAA typically have careers about like Warren Morris.

He's 23. Some pitchers dont figure it out until they are 26-27

[Bylaw 13.02.12]

13.02 relates to whether or not a person is considered a prospect for recruiting purposes and has nothing to do with when the 5-year clock starts.

Five year clock starts on first day of class of first semester of full time enrollment. Zach Lee took six hours, which is not full time, so his clock never started.

quote:

14.2.1.1 Determining the Start of the Five-Year Period. For purposes of starting the count of time under the five-year rule, a student-athlete shall be considered registered at a collegiate institution (domestic or foreign; see Bylaw 14.02.3) when the student-athlete initially registers in a regular term (semester or quarter) of an academic year for a minimum full-time program of studies, as determined by the institution, and attends the student’s first day of classes for that term (see Bylaw 14.2.2).

Thanks for posting the rule studentsect. Hopefully this will end the debate (but probably won't). Either way, it is way too early to get one's hopes up; Lee is doing well and has a lot of of baseball to go notwithstanding the original post.

Speculation and rumors up in these parts that the Brewers are taking a good look at Lee as part of a trade deal. Brewers want to dump their roster, and Zach Lee's name has come up regularly on sports radio.

Lee never atteded Fall classes. If he had then MLB would have had to wait 3 years
to Draft him. Lee left LSU on the last day before he had to go to class .

This thread 2.52 ERA this season with a 1.14 WHIP. I think he's turned a corner. Safe to say he made the right choice

His talent level is an urban legend at this point. The guy wasn't a top high school QB. He was just the best QB we could get and our roster at that time was horrible. We wanted to believe he was Peyton Manning.

He was a well regarded qb prospect. Also, STRIPES is correct about the fall classes and the eligibility as long as he didn't enter in June and take summer intercession.

He made, what, $5M guaranteed or something like that? He could've come here and been developed by the great Miles/Studrawa/Crowton mastermind combo and gone on to sell insurance for all you know.

Help me, who are some guys that have had long/successful careers that had to spend 3-4 years in AAA?

Well, he has all this year and next until he reaches 3-4 years in AAA. He's pitched 53.2 innings in AAA this year with a 2.52 ERA 42K/12BB. He's not doing bad at all.

Jon Lester didn't become a regular in the Majors until his age 24 season. Corey Kluber became a 20 game starter in his age 27 season. Chris Sale became a 20 game starter in his age 23 season.

You act like it's hard to find guys that weren't 30 game starters in the Show by 23. Not mention, as you should know, different teams handle prospects differently. And different leagues are known to be more hitter or pitcher friendly.

His 5 year clock definitely hasn't started. If his clock had started, he would have had to stay the 3 years before entering the draft again. Until you are a full time student, your clock hasn't started. We have had football greyshirts be a part time student in the fall, before entering in the spring and being about to stay 5 years after that.

Yea, if I remember correctly Zach and his team played this out perfectly. They used his enrollment at LSU for leverage to get the Dogers to pay up. Didn't it go right down to the wire. I don't think he was offered big money till right before the cut off.

To practice with the football team in the summer, you have to take 6 hrs., which is full time. Zach's clock started the summer of 2010.
