All this negative feedback about the Livingston hire has to come from kids that play Xbox and PlayStationand can't go back to see what his overall rating was as a player or its coming from people that know nothing about Randy Livingston. I guess that's what some people don't understand Livingston could barely run his knees were blown out so bad but yet he still made it 3 to 5 years playing in the NBA because of how smart he was as a basketball player

Good. Randy knows basketball.
So did Musselman and so does Suhr, but I don't think Johnny gives them much input.

" can't go back to see what he is overall rating as a player"
Co-high school player of the year two years running coming out of high school. As knowledgeable as a basketball player as you could find at his time.
What that translates into as a coach, we will have to wait to see. The pissing and moaning over an assistant coach who played his college ball at LSU is ridiculous , but not surprising.

Agree. He had an ex nba coach on his staff and refused to let him do any real coaching. There are many high school coaches in this state who could circles around JJ. Please recruit and go away.

What I have learned from this thread is that people have an emotional attachment to one of the most highly recruited players ever from Louisiana. Yes, I am old enough to remember him and his Newman days. However, just because he was a good player does not mean a damn thing as far him being a good coach. I have personally seen multiple former professional players that were horrible coaches at the high school level.
If everyone would take the purple and gold glasses off and remove your personal attachment to Randy Livingston, you would realize that this is not a good hire. If this was some random white guy who was a former player at Ole Miss (and a “coach on the court”) this board would be flipping out. Listen, I get it. This is like Leonard Fournette coming home and coaching LSU one day. People would be all warm and fuzzy on the inside just because the hero is back home.
However, I look at things differently because I am one of the few that still want to see the program succeed under Johnny or whoever the hell is the coach. The program isn’t dead yet but we are about one year away from that point. We still have some good talent but we have no recruits and no more David Patrick. We have never been a “well-coached” team under Johnny even though two years ago we had a former NBA head coach. This program needs need a defensive minded assistant that can cover up Johnny’s weaknesses. Also we still need a recruiter to replace David Patrick. This hire provides us neither. Maybe in the long run Randy could be either one of those guys but we don’t have time on our side. Johnny has to win today or him and Randy are gone.

You must have never read my posts about LSU Basketball before, friend. I have been crushed on this website for defending Johnny. But nice way to come at me with some substance.

And you KNOW this because? You don't know whether this a good hire or not at this point. So what color are your glasses?

Well for that you should be crushed. That's indefensible.

I saw him play in Gernon Brown against college aged players, you could tell he was going to be a special player.

And you know this how? We are talking about coach who will sit two or three chairs down the bench. This is not going to decide the LSU basketball season.
Take a chill pill.

I played high school basketball (not saying much, just putting it into context). I am older than Randy but played some pickup ball with him. As good as he was as a player, I was most impressed how he could direct other teammates on the floor. He knew everything that was going on on the court and where everybody should be. He was always a step ahead. I think that type of knowledge and vision of the game can only help.

The PMAC is going to be as empty as it's ever been this season.
Most of us LSU Alums/Fans know exactly what we have in JJ and will no longer be supporting the rank mediocrity that is LSU Basketball. (Both Men's and Women's)
The LSUAD needs to be taught a lesson in what happens when you insult the Fan Base by continuing to employ incompetent head coaches.

Two years ago we had a decent assistant coaching staff with David Patrick and Eric Musselman. Now we have Brendan Suhr and Randy Livingston.... This is a bad staff and there is no other way to say it.
I loved Randy as a player but the guy has had only one stop as a D-League coach. Which was 4 years ago. This looks like Johnny couldn't find anyone
Robert Kirby, Randy Livingston, and Brendan Suhr is a very solid coaching staff. You have no clue what you're talking about.

One of the best passers I have ever seen.
Welcome home, Randy!

Bob Huggins, John Calipari, Bruce Pearl, Kevin Stallings, I can go on.

"Cutting off the nose to spite the face" is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive over-reaction to a problem: "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger.
I'm no Johnny Jones fan, but IMO the solution should never be "I'm gonna teach them a lesson and quit supporting the team that I support."
Just like any coach of a major program at LSU, JJ will be judged over time, and will either keep or lose his job based on the consistent results or lack thereof. JJ knows better than anyone that the clock is ticking and results are expected soon.
