Look guys... here's a question to ask. What coach has won more than Mainieri since 09? Yes. I get all the arguments and it's good debate. Arguing consistency isn't a good debate. He's very consistent as a head coach. Yes. Miles was the same in that regard. Should we debate the parity of baseball (it HAS changed some since 09)? IF there were a couple of coaches out there that have won 2-3 Natty's since Bertman, I get it but that hasn't happened. I personally don't understand the coaching hires really, but that's not much of an excuse (I played college baseball), but does affect some things. Getting to the CWS is difficult. Very difficult. Have we underperformed based on expectations? Sure. But damn. At least we've been there. It ain't easy. I'd like to just ask who do y'all think would be better? Seriously. Some people wear down and need a change so I get that, but whom? Mainieri has gotten us there more than probably any other coach right?

this is just a restatement of the problem i've been trying to dispel. mainieri defenders are aiming low for some reason.

several other programs are winning more than lsu is. they aren't saying "at least we got there" like lsu is. they got there more and they won more. the question is why? lsu's budget is just as big. no program is superior to lsu in money, resources, exposure, etc. but that isn't translating to cws wins for lsu. why? and why are some fans ok with that?

Isnt there only 15 regular season games left? I dont think that qualifies as way too early!

It's not that we lose in the post season, it's that other teams are more consistent and look far better than us when the season is on the line

Our goal is to win championships.

On paper, since our championship, I see a lot of parity and bunch of similar resumes.

Our recent success coupled with past dominance & total attendance figures still makes our program the best in the country with no drop-off in sight despite the parity in college baseball.

LSU, 2009 champs
One missed tournament, 3 total CWS appearances,

South Carolina, 2010-2011 Champs
Has not made the CWS since Tanner took over as AD in 2012

Arizona, 2012 champs
2 CWS appearances since last LSU championship, missed the tournament 3 of last 4 years

UCLA, 2013 champs
Only 1 tournament appearance since championship

Vanderbilt, 2014 champs
Zero missed tournaments since 2005. 3 CWS appearances

Virginia, 2015 champs
Zero missed tournaments since 2003, 4 CWS appearances

Coastal Caroline, 2016 champs
Zero msised tournaments since 2009, 1 CWS appearance

With all that being said, we are still on top of the college baseball world, and it would be absurd to fire our coach.

who's fault is that when you have CLEARLY the biggest budget in college baseball? why are other schools not having to moan about the "bats" and actually win at the cws?

I'll answer these two questions just for the sake of not having to argue with your dumbass on the other stuff. The scholarship restrictions and roster limits have leveled out the playing field more than ever. Kids are going to go where they can get at least SOME scholarship money. LSU has to rely heavily on in-state recruiting because of TOPS. Every Joe Blow that's good at baseball around the country isn't lining up to come to LSU. How do you think the baseball budget money is distributed? This is a quote from 2009.

quote:

LSU ($59,663) ranked fourth in the SEC in average baseball recruiting expenditures from 2006-08, behind Arkansas ($82,670), Kentucky ($74,918) and Auburn ($67,627).

To answer your other question. My statement about the bats wasn't to moan and gripe about them it was to show that by deadening them down makes for a much more level playing field. You could take any LSU team from the nineties and they wouldn't be beating the shite out of everybody with these bats but I bet you would want to fire Skip because other teams are beating us more frequently and have more CWS wins lol. What difference does it make if a team wins 0-1 games in the CWS or 2-3 games if the end result is getting bounced out? All you care about is championships right?

I care about not sucking in midweek games....I care about not having a pitching staff that is in the process of imploding...I care about actually hitting with RISP....I care about PM not looking like a fricking turnip in the dugout when all hell is breaking loose.....and yea, I care about getting to Omaha and actually winning a game.

Is that the same towel PM used to clean his shoes after he barfed all over them in Omaha?

he does kind of look like a turnip. Especially this passed Tuesday when we were plunking batter after batter and he just stood there like he was planted in the ground instead of going to pull the pitcher that game was on him for the most part

t all comes down to who's playing their best ball in May.

UVA's 2015 Championship team needed the last weekend of their season to even make their conference tourney.

This is just like any other championship in any other sport. As long as you get in, you just have to play well for 3 weeks. Was Coastal Carolina even on anyone's radar last year? Or Fresno State the year they were a 4 seed in their regional and won the CWS?

Even hosting isn't a huge advantage anymore. It would be nice, but if LSU has to travel for a regional and/or a super, it isn't the end of the world. It is irrelevant that this team hasn't shown the potential to win a super regional yet this season. The only time they have to show the ability is when the time gets here. It is all about getting hot at the end of May and the first part of June.

is is such a lazy argument. If Les had had the same success CPM has had the last five years he would not have been fired last year.

Exactly. If Miles had won the sec title in 2015 he wouldn't have been fired.

Yeah we still have a shot at a national seed... if we go on a 12-game winning streak leading into the Miss. St. series

How about 11/12
An SEC regular season and tournament championship
A #4 National Seed
And a Regional Championship

To Be Continued...........

If real, you should only post again if we win it all...

Either way, well done.

The Sports Bar Heroes and Tailgate Theorists sit in judgment and have not ever played of any significance but want to fire the coach while their ever expanding waistlines line and insignicance grows.

Good job team and good job coaches

Let's hear all about your extensive playing experience, Corch. How many World Series rings you sporting there?

I think you're projecting, myself.

I don't get that. Looks like he acknowledges he isn't an expert.

A lot of PM bashers have taken cover...they will be out again though
