It's not perspective. I like Harris. He has to complete passes to wide open receivers. That's not asking a lot.

Practice, practice, practice. You don't develop a passing game during the last 3 weeks of the season. And no, throwing the ball 45 yards down field to the sideline ISN'T a passing game. Harris is a 5 star recruit who experts say has all the tools. He needs practice and repetition

Fewer haters than I think you realize.
The kid hasn't shown yet and thats just a fact not a swipe. Some show early and some win the Heisman their senior year.
Its not just one thing holding LSU back.

Nobody "hates" him, we just wish we would play better.

I have no idea..i'm not a coach. Some players just reach their peak in sports. I'm thinking Harris did when he was in high school.
Well Mettenberger had 2 years of JUCO as a starter, sat his sophomore year at LSU and his junior season completed 58% of his passes and had 12 TDs and 7 INTs.
Harris as a freshmen completed 55% and had 6 TDs and 2 INTs and this season completed 53% and had 12 TDs and 5 INTs. Maybe he deserves as much leeway as Zach got. I bet if he got the McNeese game and had a full 13 like met the 4th year Jr he would have a statistically better season as a 2nd year soph.
Remember Zach didn't shine until he was a 5th yr Sr and still 22/8 TD/INT wasn't exactly all world and that was with OBJ, Landry and a couple other very good WRs. Not to mention Jeremy Hill playing as well as any RB in the country.

Right. And my point isn't that he will be the next JR.
My point is that between year 2 and 3 JR made some pretty big strides. It's not out of the question for Harris to do the same.
He does seem to have some accuracy issues which surfaced later in the season. You fix that with repetition.

I can't hate on the kid. It's obvious the coaching staff has failed him and Jennings.
Coaches make him throw it into the ground and over throw receivers?
dude has lost it mentally!!

Under saban and fisher jamarcus wasn't good enough to unseat Marcus Randall in his second year
You mean 2004? Actually yes, he was. Russell started a few games that year and was inserted in the Citrus Bowl and led LSU back to take the lead late. Randall, a senior, started over Russell, a RS Freshman, to START the season but that's not at all how it turned out. Not the same situation at all.

It does appear to be a mental slump IMO
I don't know if he's just pressing or what but he was more accurate and efficient earlier in the year

Harris isn't no where as good as Russell.

Yes, it is asking a lot.
Haven't you read this thread and countless others?
- 5 star recruit ... the experts say so.
- Only first year starting. Plus, he's only a Sophomore. In case you haven't heard ... no P5 team in the history of the world has had a successful FR/SO QB ... certainly, no team has won anything of consequence with such a young QB. I mean, get real...it just never happens.
- No one is on the sidelines calming him down, bringing him hot cocoa and such. Do you really expect a QB to have poise and confidence?
- Needs to work on touch and accuracy. All it takes in practice. Since that fact is now known by all ... we'll just have our QB start practicing throwing the ball ... a lot.
All of this will be easily fixed in the off-season ... and, next year will be record-breaking, filled with major awards, and such.
Just wait until next year.

Do teams with young QBs typically win anything of consequence?
Other than Florida State with Winston there aren't many

man i was hoping Jimbo would swoop in and help harris have a 2005 JR type year next year.
Posted on 11/30/15 at 7:38 am to S
If he can have a Matt Mauck 2003 type year that might be good enough to win the West next year
And he's probably more comparable to Mauck when you look at the overall skill set

It was a bad sign when he couldn't pick up the playbook through the entire 2014 season even though he had enrolled early and went through a Spring training before his Freshman year.
Just sayin'

Its the sophomore slump. Even odell Beckham went through it

The pass to Dural at ole miss was the worst throw I believe I've ever seen.
He damn near threw the football out of the fricking field of play.
That had nothing to do with coaching.
Had that been JJ or JLee you same people coddling Harris would have had you head explode.
Some qbs have it, others don't.
I just don't believe either two guys at LSU have it, based in two years worth of play that I've witnessed.

Quarterback Development Trend: History of Progress
All four QBs had remarkably similar numbers for their first year with 25+ passes in the SEC.
Although there have been outlier college QBs who have performed at an elite level during their second year, that is not the norm. However, it is the norm for LSU QBs, like other college QBs, to get better as they get more years of experience. Harris may have been shaken after the Florida game, but there is little reason to believe that he cannot develop year over year like his predecessors.
It is rational and logical to expect Harris to play better next year.
