How come LSU has to play Florida every year

Because BAMA dictates policy for the sEC. Because BAMA and TENN have to get their hate fest on every year even though they are no longer in the same division of the conference, the sEC decided to frick over the rest of the league and set up this ridiculous partially rotating schedule.

Oh...and UGA and AU have to play too...

What ought to happen is that the schedule needs to truly rotate, and if BAM/TENN and UGA/AU need to keep their little rivalries, they can keep scheduling them as non conference games.

Yeah...that'll happen.

What happened was when the SEC was divided into 2 divisions years ago, the consensus was a team would play all the other teams within their division every year and would play 3 teams from the other division on a rotating basis.

Alabama complained that they wanted to keep their "Third week in October" traditional game with Tennessee and refused to go along with the consensus' proposal.

Thus, every team had to be assigned a "permanent" inter-divisional opponent. LSU and Florida got each other.

Ever notice that none of those matchups have occurred in the SEC Championship? The only teams from the east to play in the SECCG are UT, UF, and UGA but none have played their respective permanent matchup from the west.

In fact, UT, UF, UGA, LSU, AU, and Bama have all made multiple trips to the SECCG, but never a matchup between permanents.

Just an observation. No real point to this story.

didn't LSU play Florida and UK every year?

That is correct. And we would play Florida to open the SEC schedule. Growing up I remember 3 non-conference games to open the season, Florida to start the 6 SEC games and then Tulane at the end of the year.

It would have been nice to get Kentucky as the permanent opponent instead - Lexington is a nice town to visit for a football game - but Roy Kramer loved Bear Bryant to much to let us off that easy.

Can you imagine if LSU was stuck with Vandy every year instead of florida.

Why?

Florida and LSU have one 4 of the last 6 BCS titles.

Why are folks throwing out the word "fair"? Seems really odd to me. I, personally, love playing them every year. Hopefully, next year, our offense will show up in Gainsville, as well.

It's because the SEC office is in Birmingham. Make your conclusions from there.

How so? How many BCS titles has it gotten them?

This thread is stupidity.

The only SEC school Roy had a connection with was Vandy, but many accuse him of loving UT. Now he's a Bear Bryant guy. Not sure of the connection there.

In actuality, Roy's main concern was making money for the conference. He was great at that.

Sorry but Roy Kramer loathed Bama. He was a Vandy guy. He will admit his disdain on certain occasions. He left B'ham the second he retired and went back to maryville, TN. Had a couple smarts-arse things to say about living here. When we won the SEC tourney in baseball in 03 or whatever he was booed mercilessly at the Hoover met during the trophy presentation. CBS and ABC both put their two cents in on the Bama-UT game remaining also but Kramer did nothing for Bama. Trust me on this one.

Again, I say lets Pac 10 this thing. No OOC games, play round robin, eliminate the SECCG. True SEC champ and no one has to play anyone twice and no one bitches about who's on their schedule. Lets all play.

I believe the current system is

All Division schools and 3 schools from the other division.

1 being your annual rival

another being one of two teams on a 4 year rotation (home at one, away at one, home at the other away at the other).

and the third game being one of three teams on a six year rotation (See schedule above for the idea).

For LSU it's:

UF

Tenn
Vandy

UGA
S. Carolina
Kentucky

*I know my system is right, but I just did the team sets by trying to remember how we have played them over the last few years.

So, if the office were moved, your opinion would change?

My wife worked in the SEC office for 11-12 years, and I can guarantee you that the SEC HQ goes out of its way to have zero bias for or against any team.

All big decisions are made by vote of the member institutions.

Just out of curiousity. How come LSU has to play Florida every year when they aren't in the same division? Shouldn't you have to play them for 2 years and then not for 2 years?
Cause we don't do it right like the Big 12 alteration.

The SECw is dominated by the SECe admins and the borderline bama teams that are really SECe teams.

SEC does the championship game better than Big 12 but the Big 12 schedule rotation is way much better.

I also hate the fact we don't rotate the championship game and the first interdivisional game is played at SECw and the second game ALWAYS at the SECe HOME TEAM.

I like playing Florida every year. Playing a low tier SEC east team like Vandy, South Carolina, or Kentucky every year would suck.
