I found it to be extremely crowded. Felt packed like a sardine. I didn't get the allure of famous "Grove" other than that it's a tradition. Under the tents, out of the tents, it was chock a block. The people were nice as far as my experience, but I didn't think it was all that. It was more of a pain than anything else.

The Walk Of Champions is a nice tradition, but the "walk" is narrow for a bunch of big old football players trying to get through a packed Grove. When I was there, the players didn't look too excited to be doing it. It was nothing like what our team does at LSU. That's probably why I was underwhelmed.

Eh, a few cool people. A frick load of undue snoberry and snarkiness. Really crammed spaces. Tons of hot girls. No music. No one cooking. Overall - MEH.

Very crowded, very preppy, and very boring. It is the most overrated campus experience in the SEC to me but people seem to love it.

Just did some research and found this page on Ole Miss' website.

quote:

The university expects everyone to behave responsibly and to show respect for others and for university property. University Police have been asked to focus their enforcement efforts on illegal and abusive drinking. Beer is illegal under county law, and thus prohibited in the Grove. Although liquor is legal for people 21 and older, distribution without a permit is illegal, and any alcohol left unattended or in plain view will be confiscated.

Hard liquor is okay, beer is illegal?

To minimize litter.

I agree. The only campuses I haven't been to are Arkansas, Tennessee and SCe (and Mizzou...lulz), and both times I went, Ole Miss made a strong case for my least favorite. Even after Starkville. Don't get me wrong, the campus is lovely, but the overall experience, coupled with the people, wasn't all that great.

No grills or hot BBQ but over the top catered food. Lots of chandeliers and nice people that spent way too much time getting dressed for a sporting event that doesn't involve professional horse racing.

Its pretty overrated, in my experience, particularly the grove. I know its a source of pride for Ole Miss, but its really just a hectic crowded mass of khaki and plaid douches. Imagine if you forced most tailgaters on LSU's campus into the quad and outlawed open flames - that's the grove. Cramped quarters and pre-prepared food (lots of KFC) served on tables covered with fancy tablecloths.

As far as the poeple, I got no attention from the Ole Miss fans either way. They seemed to just ignore us for the most part.

The best part were the port-a-potties that were labelled "Hotty Toddy Potty"...that's just funny.

If you are a fan of SEC football, you need to go there at least once. It is a vastly different animal than LSU tailgating.

If you go expecting it to be similar to LSU, then you will be disappointed.

If you go expecting it to reflect Louisiana culture, then you will be disappointed.

If you go expecting it to reflect Southern culture (meaning some with money and some that fake it) coupled with extraordinarily hot daughters of wealthy men from Memphis, Jackson, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta, then you will have a blast.

It is very crowded...especially when LSU rolls into town because they hate LSU.

IMO they do a very good job living within the limitations they have to tailgate...remember, they have not had something to truly be proud of (championship team) in 50 years. Given their natural limitations, they do a damn good job.

I Think lots of you are underestimating just how bad most of those people hate us.

I've been to Oxford past 8 times we've played there.
Something happens everytime that involves a mouthy blackbear fan and a LSU fan.

Wait and see.

Yeah, this kinda stuff doesn't happen at every other campus in the country on gameday or anything.

It's an alright experience.

The problem with the Grove is that they hype it up way too much. When you get there you'll probally be expecting more than what it is. I've also always thought the campus was underwelming, I expected more. However, the concept of the Grove is cool and I like the fact everyone is compacted in one area. Plus, Oxford is a good college town & check out the square.

The women look good but nothing different than what you'd see on the Parade Grounds at LSU.

Their fans are pretty good and usually mind their old business from my own experience. But, you can just tell they hate us with a passion.

ETA: Stadium isn't impressive at all, I'm not going into the game this year unless I can buy a $10 ticket like 2011

The Grove is like LSU tailgating all forced into one big grass field so nobody has any room to move

ETA: it's fun though, all these people hating on it just don't like that another school knows how to tailgate

I don't know...but I have brought friends and family (that rarely leave the homeland) and they seemed surprised that people had Bama-bangs, wore nice clothes to games and did not fry or boil all food on the spot.

I know it is weird to make the statement I made, but in my experience, some folks think that people act like Louisianans everywhere and are disappointed when they find out different.

The Oxford crowd thinks of itself as more refined than the average LSU...and in many respects they are probably correct (at least those from Memphis and Jackson areas).
