Um that's exactly what happened on the Florida return TD. Keehn miraculously gets ahold of one and Florida has all day to set up blocks for a return.

It happened last game...

When the punter doesn't get enough hang time to let the gunners get down the field allowing the returner to get a full head of steam.

Who cares if you can punt it 60 yards if when the returner catches it your guys are still 30 yards away. That's an easy 15 yards and if you make a man miss it is usually huge.

punter kicks the ball too far or too low and fast so that the returner catches it and is already running full speed when the coverage reaches him. a high 45 yard punt that is fair caught is much better than a low 50 yard kick that is returned.

Yip, it's why hangtime is so important too. Long punts with little hangtime are suicidal. It's better to shank a 25 yarder that bounces another 15 than kick a 65 yard line drive. Everyone bitches about those semi-shanks, but 40 yards net is solid.

Basically it's when your punter kicks the shite out of the ball. The returner catches the ball & the nearest defender is 30 yards away. Return guys are usually really fast and shite. They get a big jump running wide open at your gunners. Gunners are usually LBer type. Small fast as shite guy wins that matchup. Kick it a lil short & fast as shite guy has to contend with traffic. Traffic means more gunners.

Means having no hang time and ball gets to the returner too soon.

If you could have seen what Loyola College Prep did last week you could have seen a good enough formation to win big games such as Bama. They had 3 to the left 4 to the right and one to 4 to the middle and #2 and # 4 zig zagged all the way down the field on a 45 yard squib kick and they kickoff team recovered the ball twice and the times they did not they got downed on the 20 trader line ore further back
