You've got to love how ESPN conveniently ignores the fact every recruit Jones has signed has developed at LSU, and he clearly developed raw talent at UNT.

What about Cal not developing the Harrison twins to one and done's?

Cal is the worst developer of talent in the NCAA. But he is also the best recruiter. So it evens out. He barely even coaches them, has assistants doing a lot of that. His practices are scrimmages not fundamental practices. Recruiting goes a looooong way.

Johnny's got a lot to prove this year, no question. But Simmons is going to wreck.

Now this article will be used as ammo by the JJ haters and the same people who denounce ESPN just because this once it helps their claim.

I don't think he's remotely close to the mediocre coach some want to believe he is, but I would think his developing skills would be far more in question than Jones. I don't really have reason to believe Quarterman would go from a liability to giving LSU its first triple double in a long time under Cal.

It's just cringe worthy of how poorly written these pre-season ESPN articles have been. The pre-season ranking article had no mention of Craig Victor or the distinct possibility Robinson could surprise a lot of people next season

he likely wont live up to the hype, but it wont be coach jones' fault.

it's the people that have too high of expectations.

freshman are volatile, even the best ones.

What kind of fricktard puts something like this in print about a kid that is still in high school?

Ben won't live up to the hype his first year, just like LF didn't. There's a transition period for virtually any freshman ( unless your name is Chris Jackson ).

I've seen Ben twice in game situations against top talent, he needs work in the half court game. He needs to be a lot more aggressive in looking for shots. That said, he has the potential to be great...but development by the staff will be key.

I think he'll be a 15/8/4 player. Is that considered living up to the hype?

I do too, and unfortunately that will not live up to the hype some people have for him. It's pretty damn good though.

So what exactly is player development if they aren't progressing within a system with a defined strategy?

Did Jarell Martin, Jordan Mickey, Tim Quarterman and JOB III not get better under JJ? Just answer the question.

The statement was strictly about player development. Those guys developed.

This is just an out right lie. I now this is kind of a joke on here but ESPN has it out for Johnny Jones for some reason. You can complain about Johnny X and O but player development is not a problem here.

Just look at this year team Martin and Mickey both made major improvements, and Tim made the biggest jump. I find it funny how every time ESPN writes a hate article about LSU they leave him out. Shoot Johnny even develop Tuba into a serviceable player.

He is being hyped up quite a bit. It may be impossible for him to live up to it.

Please tell me what this has to do with JJ player development.

I'm not the biggest JJ fan, but the criticism he gets on here is ridiculous. Trent Johnson did not get this much hate and he did absolutely nothing while he was here at LSU.

How about stop giving the ball to fricking Jordan Mickey. I would think that was evident after about the second missed layup.

Its easy to predict this only because he is hyped as the next big thing. If he isn't Lebron, Kobe, or Durant then he didn't live up to hype. If he is next Jabari Parker it will be looked on as a failure even though he is solid.
