"7. Ben Simmons won't live up to the hype: Simmons is a great prep player. He's the No. 1 high school player in America for a reason. The 6-foot-9 forward could be the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He has the tools to be an immediate threat at this level. Just one problem: He has a coach who doesn't have a knack for developing talent. Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey didn't make the strides that most anticipated when the two NBA prospects returned for the 2014-15 season. Simmons will have the ball in his hands a lot next season. But will Johnny Jones and his staff mold him into the superstar that he's expected to be? There are no guarantees of that."

Yea, cause Jarell didn't make a huge jump from year 1 to year 2.

I think he'll be a 15/8/4 player. Is that considered living up to the hype?

I don't see him winning the Naismith or anything

LSU has a street ball type offense. not much screening, back door passes, etc..
for once I agree with ESPN

Jones has legitimate faults, but lack of player development isn't one of them.

Strategy isn't the same as player development. Your quote isn't wrong. It just doesn't apply here.

I swear, a little bit of success makes you people delusional. For all the success this team had this year compared to past years, they still saw a 1st round exit. You pick any other top 40 seed coach in America, I promise you, that team sees more success than it had this year. Hell, Rick Barnes could have got more out of that team.

The question is one of player development and Martin and Mickey improved from year one to year two.

Jarell and Jordan both improved stat-wise their second year but I think ESPN is focusing on their skill development. Jarell still doesn't have a very consistent jumpshot and Jordan doesn't have much of an offensive game at all outside of dunking. However that may be their fault more than Johnny's. A head coach is focused the team developing and while he certainly is there to develop his players too he is not a personal trainer.

So what exactly is player development if they aren't progressing within a system with a defined strategy?

Again I reiterate, Espn consistently attacks our coaches and players with jabs and insults.

He writer of that article would get a PM from admins instructing him to quit bashing the basketball coach. There is no place on this site for that type of criticism.
