more to life than money..good health is priceless. Don't blame him one bit for considering what's best for his life

Football is violent game and the size, speed and condition of athletes in the NFL is just crazy.
I am frankly surprised some last so long. I wish there was a way to stop the evolution of the game in a manner that preserved it's nature.
Cheers and best wishes to Eric Reid and his family / support system for realizing health is so important. Some with the ability to play at that level never even get the chance. I wish him an injury filled rest of his career which I hope is as long as he wants it to be.

Actually, Reid was pissed on Twitter for this guy twisting his words. He never said anything about retirement.
exactly, had he said he was thinking of retiring, dont you think they would have quoted that word for word?
yet that never showed up anywhere.

go back to leather helmets, seriously

Yeah it's very odd that it's seemingly only San fran dealing with this at such a large scale.
Sometimes all it takes is that first domino to fall. Almost a mob mentality if you will.
I worked at a job that wasn't particularly bad but there was a lot of dissension among the ranks. Eventually one person quit and literally within 2 weeks 6 of the other 8 employees also quit.

This actually is an idea to consider. Of course, the knee-jerk response is that it would cause more injury, but with leather helmets, players wouldn't lead with their head, so head injuries would theoretically be reduced.
I understand it would take a lot of study to see if it really worked, but the way helmets are now, players have little incentive not to lead with the head.

I've read of some research that has been done already. I think it's worth exploring. Take some of the body armor away so that it's used for the original design and not as a weapon.

Concussions are the reason I feel bad watching football, and consider not watching it.

Please put your vagina away. Football is a brutal game, don't think these people don't know what they're signing up for

How frequent are concussions in Rugby. Those guys wear ZERO protection. Granted they don't have nearly as many full speed collisions but they definitely don't play with their heads down.

Concussions still happen every once in a while but not near as frequently. Players don't tackle with their head. You're also taught to put your head behind the body and drive through rather than across the body.
I think one thing that would help would be something that would force players to wrap up in the tackle. Or penalize anytime a player leaves his feet for the tackle whether it's targeting or not.
