I edited the auto correct, fwiw.

Have you ever gotten a bad grade in a class that you gave you best in?
How old are you? Give your best? You don't seriously believe someone who becomes academically ineligible gave his best in multiple classes who had access to the facilities and people he did?

Do you believe outside influences beyond your control could affect your academics in a negative way?
All the time. Happens to everyone. It wasn't an excuse for football (if that's what his excuse is), why should it for school?

In terms of players leaving early look at it in this perspective. If you were an unpaid intern at a business and another business offered to hire you at a minimum of $400,000 a year. Would you go, or would you stay?

Secondly. I don't agree with the actions of Wing or Ego. You are a student athlete. Your primary job is to go to school. You have so many resources on the team to help you with your schooling. Why waste this opportunity.

Third. I also don't agree with Juniors being allowed to escort seniors out on senior day to honor the junior probably leaving. Especially if the kid they are honoring as a Junior didn't do what he was supposed to do; like pass his classes.

In a rare situation I can agree with it. For example: Patrick Peterson. He was a great representative of LSU. He was a Top 5 pick. He laid everything out on the field play in and play out and did all the right things. Even to this day he tries to help out LSU(tweeting Hootie to come to us). He deserved to be honored even as a Junior.

Edit: Thanks to Ego for what he has done at LSU on the field. Too bad he won't be able to play his probably last game in the purple and gold. Always a Tiger. Good luck in the NFL.

These are the same ones pining for the next 5 star to choose LSU, just to be later ambushed and vilified if he ever suffers a set back. I assure you this fandom is one of the reasons some Louisiana recruits are not as smitten with LSU as we are.

True. Pretty sad and pathetic actually.

You have to be lazy as frick not to stay eligible based on what LSU does for their student athletes...

Learning disability or not...you should stay eligible at least. No doubt he didn't give a single frick that day or semester(double negatives ftw). The dude clearly had NFL on his mind. Anyone who can't see that is ignorant. I know for a fact you have to try and NOT stay eligible at LSU for something like this to happen. So yea, I'm going with laziness. Regardless, it's a selfish act however you see it.

Anyways, good luck in the future Ego. Hope you do well in the NFL.

Glad he's out. Would have probably played not to get hurt and screw up his draft chances like a bunch of our guys last year. I'd rather have a guy in there playing his heart out for the team.

Those players dont exist anymore and to the OP yes someone is going to have to burn a redshirt.

I'm a big benefit of the doubt guy, but for a football player to lose eligibility because of academics it could ONLY mean he quit, there are no other explanations.

This.

This isn't a matter of intelligence, it's a matter of effort, which Ego clearly didn't give. There are classes where you can literally show up on exam days only and walk out of finals with a B, and I guarantee you that Ego was placed in every single class like that.

You only have to maintain a 1.9 for the semester and a 2.0 overall. If you major in Sports Administration, you have to give somewhere between one and zero fricks to become academically ineligible.

No one has more academic support than football players. They have a whole building of tutors, past tests, etc. 24/7. If he didn't want the shame then why didn't he avail himself of all these perks?

Please enlighten me. Which players from last years team that left early are on practice squads?

Brad Wing didn't even make a practice squad. Oh and Sam Montgomery is certainly not making any tackles this year.

We do not know their personal issues, correct. But we do know some circumstances. These athletes are given EVERY opportunity to do well in the classroom. We know their facilities. We know they have special tutors. There are things that can be deduced when an LSU athlete has academic issues.

I agree to a point. He'll end up paying for that in the long term. The nfl will take notice of this and it'll effect his draft status unless he's always struggled while putting forth effort. However, to turn on the players without much cause is the issue. If he indeed flaked out this past semester after all lsu has done for him, that's a shame, but again, I doubt we'll ever know the whole story...

But he is paid..... benefits of being an LSU athlete:
Out ouf state tuition, room board books: $26k
Nutrition-optimizedmeals/training table: $12.5k
Personal training sessions for 180 days / yr: $5.5k
Private tutoring: $2k
LSU Ath department clothing: $0.5K
Healthcare premiums: $2.5K

Total pre-tax benefit of $49,000 of which, living in Louisiana, he'd need to be earning about $63,000 to be able to pay for all those benefits.

Besides, in your "unpaid intern" scenario, it assumes he would make the team, otherwise he gets nothing. Ask Brad Wing how much he's making now......less than $63K?
