Run heavy game that will most likely be low scoring.

Wisky has the top RB in the country IMO in Melvin Gordon. He would have been the top RB taken in the draft that just happened, and will be a top 2 RB taken in the upcoming draft, along with Gurley, most likely in the 1st round.

Gordon is in the mold of a Jamaal Charles type of RB. Hes 6'1 207lbs. So hes not a big, powerful RB that we are used to seeing in the SEC. But, hes very strong for his size and runs low and behind his pads really well. He can break tackles. But his best assets are his vision, balance, agility and his acceleration. He has great vision and can pick out the smallest seam, and once he sees it, he hits it at top speed due to his great acceleration. And you really need to hit and wrap him up to take his down. Trying to reach and grab him wont work and he will stay up and keep going forward due to his balance. And once he gets in the open field, hes a nightmare to bring down. He makes people miss with ease and once he gets to the corner, hes gone.

Hes the type of RB that can take it to the house from anywhere on the field, but hes not just a homerun threat. He can grind it out and pick up 4yards on carries where he should have been tackled at the LOS or for a loss. He can do the grind it out / run between the tackle type of running as well.

They are also high on sophomore RB Corey Clement. And they always have a sound OL that is mistake free and well coached.

I think Melvin Gordon will break off a coupe of outstanding runs. He will get his, hes that good. But I also see us stopping him a few times as well. And also think we shut down any type of passing attack that they have. We are going to need to match them on the ground, which I think we will with a nice combination of Magee and LF.

LSU wins 24-17.

I'm probs in the minority with this prediction, but I see a blowout. I'm talking 38-3, at least one defensive TD, multiple sacks and 300 yards on the ground. I see it going like the Oregon game in '11, slow but productive 1st half then outright obliteration in the 2nd half.

I'm in the same boat. 17-14 LSU in the first half, then the run game just takes over in the second half. One thing Wisky doesn't have on defense (besides any returning front 7) that LSU has, is depth. I've seen this countless times. Decent to good team stays matched up with us to the half, then LSU's run game just starts to impose it's will.

We finish with over 300 rush yards and outscore them 27-10 in the second half.

44-24

LSU -
QBs 8-15 140 yards 2 TDs 1 int
Rush 52 315 yards 4 TDs
FG 1/2

Wisky
QB 10-23 130 yards 2 ints
Rush 46 250 yards 3 TDs
FG 1/2

Based on last year we did blow people out.

This game has nothing to do with last year.

I wish our FBs could do that

Weren't we supposed to blowout Arky and Iowa last year? Wisky is way better than both of those teams. I would say don't get your hopes too high.

Offense..they will return a ton of good backs, probably have an above average offensive line, and lost most of their WR corp to graduation.

True. You could also say that Wisconsin fans have mixed feelings about their returning QB, Joel Stave, because he throws a lot of INTs.

quote:

Defense..The front seven was decimated by attrition and the secondary returns some experienced guys who don't seem to have been all that good last year.

True. But this is deceptive because, like most major teams, a lot of their new defensive starters have plenty of playing experience.

Fairly certain both teams will load the box to stop the run so whoever can exploit that better will have a definite advantage.

True. Without a doubt, both teams are going to try to run the ball first.

One huge advantage LSU should have is pure team speed.

What LSU has are several X factors at the skilled positions. Our play at QB, RB, and WR will make or break LSU's day. Personally, I expect to see some mistakes at these positions, but I also expect the talent to rise up and win the game in the end.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was 38-14 or 38-17. The ol and RB is good though.

Based on what? Our experience at QB and WR? Yes LSU has better athletes. I see a lot of homer in this thread.

We have a QB who will be making his first or second start and some of you think we will score 35+ lol

Low scoring boring game. Neither team has a passing offense. Both are inexperienced. 20-10.

The possibility of LSU running away with this game is certainly there given Wisky's apparent lack of a passing attack. If forced to abandon their running game, it could get ugly fast for the badgers.

How big a lead would LSU need for that to happen though is the question. I'd go with 17+.

Just as likely:

Like I have said in other threads on this topic, we have 2 lock-down corners that will allow us to put more focus on the run-stop. That's positive because I think their line and RBs are talented.

We will use the TE more this year, something that is not apparent in film from last year. This will help 1) with our passing (short routes) and 2) with our run game by keeping their LBs honest.

A big win over Wisconsin will give our guys a lot of confidence.

Wisconsin will hit their TEs a lot. A lot. They will be perfectly content to nickel and dime all the way down the field.

With a first-time or second-time starting QB that is not going to happen.

Run, run, run. Both teams will be 75% run. LSU will be stronger on OL and DL.

Wisconsin 13

We will come out with something to prove and handle. Business.

Yeah, I think we're the better team, the more talented team, and we should win on a neutral field.

And other than a shakey performance against a decimated UNC team, we've done well in these opening day intersectional matchups.

This is a game we should win.

LSU was blowing that team out until crowton called off the dogs and the defense started shitting the bed

LSU was up 30-10 before UNC came back
