Get rid of the shift.

No

I know it annoys some people, but think about this just a moment... there really shouldn't be any hard-fast rules about where you position your fielders, other than that the pitcher has to pitch from the mound.

This isn't middle-school PE softball, where you might have 30 people in the field. You are limited to 9, one goes behind the plate by necessity to catch the pitches. One goes to the mound and throw pitches. After that, let them do whatever the hell they want to; an extreme shift opens some big holes up on the other side of the infield.

Outfielders on the edge of the infield (sometimes see that in the 9th, guy on 3rd) can take away just about any ground ball hit, but a liner (or even a fly ball) over their heads defeats it.

Is it growing or stagnating in general popularity or involvement?

The TV part is growing in popularity. A few things driving that:

NIL enticing some players out of the draft. Life of a college superstar better than a minor league phenom…

Transfer portal in moving the top players to contenders. This yrs CWS had more top talent present than before. Three of top draft guys matched up in finals along with the future stars on the rosters as well. Add matchups like Skenes/Lowder in non finals and overall rating were up a bunch

You get in an advantage while you are in your bracket. Once you win your bracket, that advantage should be over

It's a very little, inconsequential thing, but I don't like how the umps treat a hit batter like a thug and don't say that much to the pitcher. I saw this a couple of times in the CWS.

3rd strike is an out. Regardless if catcher catches it or not.

That’s part of baseball. A good defensive catcher is a must though. Millazo was literally diving at some pitches to keep the ball from rolling all the way to that backstop at the CWS. They actually have a warning track behind home plate.

If we have an automated strike zone, the zone needs to be expanded.

College pitchers aren’t good enough to pitch to an MLB strike zone.

That’s fine.

As long as it’s always the same.

I don’t disagree it needs improvement, let’s not pretend 10 pitches can’t change the course of an at bat/inning/game/series. Or keep it as it is and have shite umps making shite calls and changing games. “Meh human error”, human error if for the players not some jerk off we shouldn’t even hear from

Because the technology is not ready contrary to people outside the know.

You do realize that even a robo ump will not be perfect. One big Hangul is having to reset the strike zone for every batter. There is no guarantee that the zone will be exactly the same for subsequent at bats for each player

The charm of athletics is imperfections it mirrors the trials and tribulations of human life

I really feel sorry for people who live their life with the expectation of perfection. Until Jesus returns perfection doesn’t exist

John Wooden said that the team that plays closest to their potential most often usually wins championships

The caliber of umps needs to be higher. There are a couple gems and a whole bunch of duds behind the place. Reverse that ratio.

Go back to aluminum bats but make it where two strikes and you're out

Kyle Peterson even acknowledged that this rule needs to be advised.
They said the 1st base bag rule and the foul pole being called foul pole when it’s actually in bounds are exactly opposite and contradict each other.

he was in the infield more than half way down the line. Whether you like the rule or not, he was OUT . . . by rule. There's no room for interpretation.

Not sure why this board keeps making such a big deal out the guy getting called out at first…when I first saw it live, I couldn’t understand it but when you see the replay from the right field camera it makes perfect sense…he never was in the running lane, and because of that, he made it harder for the 1st baseman…not a bad rule and it was the correct interpretation of it…
That guy started in the grass and never got to the running lane …
