Anthony Jennings should be given a serious look. Mett has an NFL Arm? Great!! That doesn't do any good if you cant escape pressure. Mett can't throw the deep ball either, which is crazy to me. I was 100 percent on board with Mett, but after watching wide open deep ball after wide open deep ball get over thrown, and his god aweful pocket presence, I do not have any faith that we can win the conference with im at QB.

Bring on the "what about the bama game" He had one good half. Hell, Stephen Garcia had a few good games once, and he was garbage.

NO
I do think he deserves the right to come into Spring as the starter but I would have a quick trigger. A QB has to be able to make things happen. Its a trait some people just dont have. Ability/Potential doesnt equal big wins at the QB spot.Alot of what ifs and wouldacoulda but not enough big wins.

Im starting to think that way on Mett.
Playing with Freshman OL and sophomore WR's gives him the first shot with me to prove to me that that was the problem vs what my gut/eyes are telling me.

If it werent for the Alabama game Id wouldve already thrown in the towel.

Only if he develops a 4.6 in the 40 and learns to protect the ball on scrambles. It has got to the point that I am curious what his backups can do.

In fact if I were an all around quarterback I would never waste my time to play for an offense like LSU

U see my friend u have just told the real story of why Miles gets what he can at QB.

We are no different than ALabama we run a prostyle offense. Its the right offense when u are a strong defensive oriented team. If and when we home grow a QB we get a good one.,when we dont we scramble. Do u think out of state elite 5 star QB's are lining up to play in the SEC against these defenses and pass rushers vs the Big XII? Johnny Football is unbelievable and deserved the Heisman. good for u and ur coach for seeing his ability and allowing it to fluorish, but thats no slam on Miles he cant keep up with every small town 2-3 star QB in the country. Again we are two plays from playing tonite with a ton of injuries and Hurst and the Badger leaving. Mostly the coach's fault himself.

i am very concerned about the execution of plays at LSU. and the play calling. mett is not good enough, imo, to overcome the sloppy execution on many of our plays and our coaching staff doesn't seem to know what a screen pass is. of course, with the inaccuracy of metts passes maybe he is lousy at executing screen passes. i understand that a qb doesn't hit all of his receivers but mett is just very inaccurate many, many times. therefore, i do not have a lot of faith in him. he throws a great ball it's just that he throws it the wrong place too much. like a fast ball pitcher that walks a lot of guys.

no faith in Mett.. I only hope they give each QB in the Spring equal opportunity to start. Mett will give us a headache if starter in 2013.

With Mett - 7-5 2013 season.

Without Mett - 10-2

Yes.

He needs to work on selling play-action passes and his footwork, amongst other things.

The OL needs to get WAY better at pass protection. I am hoping that Faulk comes back, that should help.

I think losing the Clemson game in the fashion we did (judging by his comments), may have made him realize he needs to improve a great deal. He also will be a senior, so if he has NFL aspirations, his time is now. Of course, he may just grow his mustache and drink beer during the offseason, but I am betting that he gets serious.

What can you do when your pocket collapses? Where can you step up or out when it collapses from all sides? Even the greats with mobility get sacked the way mettenberger was sacked. What can you do when you get hit RIGHT after the playaction? And you know what? The defense gets to the opposing qb the same way. You haters expect way too much. You hate it when there is a dual threat like JJ.. then all of a sudden need a dual threat QB.

For everyone not sold on Mett, did you not watch the Alabama game this year???

Mett played the best game of an LSU quarterback since JR against ND and it came against the #1 D in the country. He DESTROYED Saban's D.

When he has protection and his WRs are catching the ball, he can beat any team we play.

Sadly no.
Could someone teach the kid how to throw the long ball. He throws a rope everytime.
Also his feet in the pocket are very heavy and his pocket clock is not quite as developed as you would wish. No joke intended.
He has a strong arm but that dont mean much if you cant read a defence or lack touch on the ball. Another year hoping for off. improvement.

Here is Mettenberger standing in a good pocket, feet set, making a down the field throw that was so off Landry had to make a phenomenal play to catch. Mett just needs to improve his release and mechanics, he throws too hard sometimes and work on his hand/eye coordination so he can put the ball in the right spot.

I don't know what these guys are expecting here with Mettenberger. He doesn't have very good pocket presence, but the OLine never gave him much time. The dude was lights out when he wasn't on his arse most of the season.

No faith in Mettenberger? Despite the shitty flow of our offense and the elementary offense we ran, he still put up more completions, more yards, higher YPA, higher completion % and less INTs than Matt Flynn did in 2007.

Flynn 07

Matt Flynn 202-359 2407 56.3% 6.71 21td 11int 125.8

Mettenberger 12
quote:

Zach Mettenberger 207-352 2609 58.8% 7.41 12td 7int 128.3

Russell 05
quote:

JaMarcus Russell 188-311 2443 60.5% 7.86 15td 9int 136.6

Im obviously omitting Russell 06 and the last 4 years. For a first year starter, he was solid for the most part of the season.

Yes the tds weren't there, but we also shut down the passing game in the redzone for most of the season, especially early on.

It was his first year starting, and we were a defensive stop away from playing tonight.

We will return almost all starters on offense with the addition of getting Faulk back, who was our best OLineman coming into the season.

We will be fine on offense next season with Mett. Protect him, and we have potential to see a 3000 yard 20 td season out of him.

A good half? Jesus. He had one of the best months ever for a LSU QB in November. He's a first year starter and improved as the season went on.

I know you guys expect play station stats from every QB right out of the gate, but come on. Stephen Garcia? Well Mett's not an alcoholic. He's the best QB on the roster and will be next year as well.

The whole offense needs to go. Just take a look at some of the institutions in the state of Lousiana. LSU needs a playmaking QB and an offense with some imagination. The Defense was a disaster until Miles hired a worthy offensinve coordinator- now the defense is fine (until the last four games). Miles needs to do the same with the offense now. Keep Les, he is a great recruiter and the players play hard for him but get rid of this offense that can only be described as a disaster. Les is starting to look more and more like Mack Brown.

Starting a new quarterback next season if Mett is still here would be ridiculous and insane.

I agree with this but everyone in the SEC knows from looking at him this year that if you put pressure on him there is a great chance that he will make mistakes or get sacked. Also, just look at Miles history. There is no way in hell that Mett doesn't start the first game of the year vs. TCU. Get use to him. He's there till he gets hurt or throws 4 pics in a half and then Miles "might" play the backup.
