Ok... no crap in your responses... This is a simple question...

Last year, many people were questioning/skeptical about Miles due to their tremendous "fortune" in winning the UT game and the UF game. Then, Lsu plays Bama. With one trick play on 4th & 1 all of a sudden a coach that many were skeptical about is
"the man."

I agree that Miles is a good man. But it seems that one game and even one play converted people last year? Based on the Bama win, all of a sudden Miles is solid. True or False?

this, and on the Bama game I don't think was the fact that they won, it was how it was done. Miles coached Saban under the table in that game.

I haven't checked your facts but your probably right. However, anyone who watches football a little knows that during that six year stretch ole Les has had more than his share of "football fortune" to borrow part of a phrase from Skip Bertman. And, last year, he loses to UT if they don't have 12 people on the field on the last play. And, he loses to UF accept for getting a really, really lucky bounce on a fake fg.

I don't think that has to do with it at all. I think people realized that LSU is locked into Les for at least 5 years now with his extension/ guaranteed money.

LSU fans are fickle, and if LSU struggles this season, the fire will be back on Les, especially seeing as LSU is an NC favorite. If LSU loses to UO, trust me, his critics will be back.

That said, Les gets way too much hype for the Bama win. Also, fans always lay off him in the off-season, especially after a big bowl victory. They all are hoping things will go right this season.

Too much hype for winning against your arch rival?? GTFO. Some FANS will never be happy with Les no matter what he or his team does. To those critics I say; Please, go pull for someone else. Thanks in advance.

convert Miles skeptics?
they will never be converted. anything short of winning every game he coaches for the next 4 years, he'll always be a bum and "sabans recruits" and a grass eater and bad time management :blah:

i was watching the 07 v-tech game the other day, at one point musburger makes a "nick saban who?" comment. the 07 florida game, vern says something to the effect of: "if he wins this game, he'll finally win over the LSU faithful." then it was supposed to be the national championship game.

miles is simply on the wrong side of a phenomenon ive coined coaching perception. everytime nick saban loses a game, its "cant win em all." when miles loses, its b/c hes an idiot and doesnt know what hes doing. miles' haters would run him out of town if he went into the season as a unanimous preseason #1, only to lose 3 games and a 24 point lead against his rival, at home. its never nick sabans fault. ever.
everyone still thinks mike stoops is going to turn arizona around. who cares its his 8th year there. youd never know it they way people talk about him. heres a tidbit- hes lost more games than hes won there. but people still believe hes a smart guy and a good football mind, despite the facts. butch davis is another guy whos always been bullet proof in reputation, despite only having 1 double digit win season in his college (and pro) career.

miles is just too far down the bad road to make it back.

**i am not a miles apologist. he does things that drive me crazy, but if you take a step back, he never gets enough credit, and gets too much blame**

So if you don't know Miles has the best year stretch of any LSU coach, then WHO do you pull for? And for the good fortune you mention, I suppose you don't think sometimes LUCK or STUPIDITY plays a part in winning or losing??

See Ole Miss 2008;(Clock mismanagement) or Alabama 2009:(PP interception). Sometimes it works for you; sometimes it works against you. It's part of the game.

It was a nice win, and I was happy for Les, but people make way to big a deal about it. Bama was a very good team, but it was one game.

Les is a solid coach and does get way too much grief. I just find it funny that one win or one play is supposed to change everything for some people. It works both ways.

When Les wins another SEC title, more skeptical people will warm up to him. In 6 years he's only won the West twice, and only once in the last 5 years. People worry about another era of nice wins but no more hardware ahead.

Compare the last 6 years coaching college ball for Saban and Miles:

Saban: 12 win, 13 win and 14 win seasons, two NCs, two SEC titles, three SEC West titles, 3 BCS bowls.

Les: 12 win season, one NC, 1 SEC title, 2 SEC west titles, 2 BCS bowls.

In that time, Saban rebuilt a team at Bama, while Les only had to maintain an already built juggernaut. That said, Les should have earned and deserves the fans' respect as of right now.
