I honestly would have liked to have seen Tolliver on Wilson some. He looks like a legit shutdown corner.

D Thomas had so many tackles cause his marks kept catching passes thrown their way

KT would have sized up better, but I understand why we wouldn't put a true freshman in his first game on a guy like WIlson.

Two good things I took out of the game though believe it or not.

Miss. Knew Fournette was coming and he still popped off for 150 and three scores

Our defense will be better this year with stunts and pressure as long as the offense doesn't keep them on the field 90 percent of the snaps.

Running against a 10 man front wasnt the problem. Running anyone but fournette against a 10 man front was the problem.

1st quarter and 2nd quarter we were almost entirely in man coverage and for the most part shut them down. From about 5 min left in 2nd quarter through the end of the game we went almost entirely zone and Dak just found his spots.

Not sure if this was a good strategy or not. I guess it prevented the big plays, but it was easy for Dak to find pockets to throw to consistently. I guess if we could have scored a bit more the zone would have been perfect, so maybe that was Steeles thinking.

But clearly the DB's giving up plays were when they were in zone.

Great point. If we score 7 or 14 more it's a totally different mind set for the State coaches. At least 5 teams lost yesterday, in big games, by sitting on their lead. Teams are too explosive to sit on leads these days.

It seems that most of the defensive positions played well last night including the DL and linebackers, but the last couple of drives our DB's were just clueless allowing catch after catch and no interceptions on the night with all of those passes
No. Prescott is a legitimate NFL talent, and at least 1 WR is good and big enough to give NFL corners trouble. How many attempts, 52 or something? And then at least 4 sacks and a couple scrambles; that's basically 60 passes called. Of that, I can think of 1 play where the WR was wide open, and that was when Tolliver released his guy and Adams was coming over (not sure who messed that up, or if it was just a hole in the D). The rest was a shite-ton passes underneath, where you have to give Prescott credit for hanging in under pressure.

We covered their WRs well for the most part, and also made a few hits that caused the incompletions too (Adams on the post or go route).

I thought our depth on dl should be the biggest concern. that is why I thought it was so strange Miles wanted to pound the ball in the 3 and 4 quarter. Defense doesn't have depth to play all game like that.

I thought Ricky J and Tolliver both stepped up big time. White played fine. Wilson had a good game but white was matched up man on man with him with out safety help the entire night from what I saw. That was a tough assignment but because of it we were able to cheat against the run and help out Tolliver. Our game plan was obviously to make Dak beat us and it worked. He had 52 passing attempts!

Better believe it did. I didn't expect any completions by MSU after reading all the hype about out DB's. MSU passed on us like a knife thru whipped cream.

a but how many times did you see #91 and #57 come off the field......not much. Past them our talent drops. The starters were rotated but not much. Which I'm fine with but they get tired and pressure is lost. Not much you can do if we dont have talent in depth. Not complaining, just an observation.

Well there is a couple things you can do. You vary you rotation so that you don't end up with too many lesser talented guys at one time. But the main thing you can do is have your offense help you out by sustaining drives in the second half. That was the defenses down fall more than anything.

Look at Dallas last year. When the offense was clicking they would get 3 and outs and protect their lack of depth and talent on defense.

I hate zone coverage. To me the only time you should need to use that is when you have inferior individual talent. All that does is allow the opposing team an easy route to come from behind. What good does it do to stop a team all through the game and then start giving them 8-10 yards a pop? It took MSU all of about a minute to march all the way down the field and score on their second to last drive. We were very fortunate on the two-point conversion as well because he was open, but Dak just threw a low pass.

If you think we took a hit last night, then Florida must've taken a shot to the dome. Eastern Carolina went 34-54 for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns. I don't think they had a heisman candidate under center either.
