The answer to that is apparent, but what's the point of shite like this? Sumlin isn't the aTm's long-term solution.

Yes. I'm glad we have aranda. I don't see him running prevent stuff at the end of the game.

Wtf? He's the best in the country. Of course they'll keep him. Especially if it's Herman because they're good friends.

Appears so. No guarantee next HC will keep him around long.

Aranda will not have a problem finding a job.

It isn't that he left or stayed, it is HOW he left, so screw him

Every action has an equal reaction. I'm glad we have Aranda. No "third and Chavis" and we seem to be getting better each week.

The reason Chavis left was over the 'Miles clause' they insisted on putting in his contract.

LSU admits to making ‘nominal’ alterations to John Chavis’ contract; judge tells coach to submit phone records

LSU, in filings this week, admitted to altering the contract of former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis after the coach signed the deal, but the school contends the alterations were “nominal” and did not affect its terms.

So, why alter it? Most unprofessional!

Per deposition, John Chavis told Les Miles: They're doing you like Tennessee did Phillip Fulmer

A&M #22 in scoring D = 19 pts/G
#98 in total D = 437.5 ypg
#68 in rush D = 250 yds/G. Tied 106 Pass D = 278 yds/g.

LSU #4 in scoring D = 14 ppg.
#13 in total D = 312.0 ypg
#11 in rush D = 103.7 ypg
#44 in passing D = 208.3 ypg.

Great stats, but still irrelevant at this point in the season.

A&M has played better offenses than us.
A&M: Arky, Tenn., UCLA, w/a common opp. in Auburn - who scored 16 pts.
Granted, they also played S. Car. and they're horrible, as well as Prairie View.
LSU: Mizzou, Jack. St., Miss St., Wisconsin, Auburn, and So. Miss.

So. Miss and Mizzou are the only teams putting up ANY offense this year - against inferior competition.

In summary, Chavis made a smart move. Miles is gone years ago if not for him.

He and Saban are still the most respected DC's in the college ranks b/c of what they've done, for how long, and for different teams.

Aranda may get there some day, but he'll need some big-time wins under his belt and some longevity to be in that same class.

Yeah, those Aggies cream themselves over his mediocre defenses.

Not really. By Steele being at Auburn and not LSU, he'll get to collect a healthy pension for life as a result of his tenure working for Alabama state universities.

He was one year away from reaching the required tenure when he came to LSU. He's in a MUCH better situation now than he was at LSU.

It looked dicey for a little while there, but as it turns out, Aranda could not be in a better situation.

First of all, he is the DC and despite all of the shuffling and controversy, the defense did not miss a beat. As a result, he gets full credit for their success this year which of course happens to be in the toughest conference. Plus he inherited a team full of blue chip talent to showcase his schemes. He gets paid regardless, and any new HC will hopefully be smart enough to retain him or LSU will be in serious trouble on both fronts.

If the D keeps improving like it has, he'll be Tom Herman hot as far as DC's go by the end of the year, and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts getting HC offers.

Yup... that's why they will keep the chief for much longer than we might think. Because they really don't know any better. It is a perfect fit for Chavis.

A+M hasn't really been in the SEC long enough to truly understand how badly a top defense is needed to compete. They just know that theirs needs to get better. Chavis will give them a consistently good defense and they will keep on trying to win the West with a top offense even though the real SEC powerhouses will keep shutting them down when it matters late in the season.

You gotta compare apples to apples. Take out the FCS teams.

While it is true that he saw the writing on the wall, he also got tired of having to be firewall for Les' stagnant, suffocating, inept offense.
FWIW, had Sumlin not been fortunate the land OU transfer Trevor Knight, Chavis would be looking for a new job after this year with Sumlin.

I never liked Chief. I still enjoy watching Ro and Josh Reed tear up his vaunted defense in 2000, not to mention Mauck's MVP performance in the 2001 SECCG.

He may have, we'll have to wait and see. New head coaches usually bring in their own staff, so Aranda might be gone. But we'll find out soon enough.
