By that logic, Aranda made a bad decision.

LSU has a better D now than his last season

And far better defensive recruiting so it's good for both

The reason Chavis left was over the 'Miles clause' they insisted on putting in his contract.

Aranda doesn't have this clause in his contract, so he's going to get paid regardless of if the new coach gets rid of him. Aranda made a wonderful decision.

He got paid, and somebody will pick him up if he's not wanted.

Whoever gets the job would be stupid to get rid of Dave Aranda.

A&M is #22 in scoring defense with a little over 19 pts/G. They are #98 in total D with 437.5 ypg allowed. #68 in rush defense allowing just south of 250 yds/G. Tied for 106 in passing D allowing 278 yds/g.

LSU is #4 in scoring defense allowing 14 ppg. #13 in total defense with 312.0 ypg allowed. #11 in rushing defense allowing 103.7 ypg on the ground. #44 in passing D allowing 208.3 ypg.

Just put on your regular glasses if you can't see who came out ahead in this deal.

And it's still impressive how much better Chavis has made them. That's how bad their defense was.

No sir. Chavis fled because of the Miles clause. There is no such clause in Aranda's contract.

Sort of, except for the Miles Clause, which was never part of Aranda's contract. Not sure about Chavis.

But to the OP's questions

Probably so, and eventually good for LSU.

Not saying they aren't better than they have been. But all this talk about how good they are is just false.

They literally do one thing well, run the football. They're playing bama this weekend. You know what bama does REALLY well? Stop the run.

You know what TAMU's defense does well? Force turnovers. You know what bama doesn't do? Allow turnovers.

There's a reason bama is favored by 20 points.

You can't compare Aranda and Chavis. The chief's contract had the Miles clause, Aranda has a guaranteed contract, comparing apples to oranges. Aranda gets paid regardless of who the HC happens to be. So in reality they both made very good choices.

Aranda has a three year deal exclusive of who the coach is, so if the next HC doesn't keep him, and he has build a very strong resume to keep him, then LSU would have to buy out his last two years.

It's all fun and games until Aggy has their usual late season Sumlin swoon.

Whatever the motive, it was the best decision for LSU. Good riddance.

man, we still have to pay him. and Aranda is a hot property and justifiably so.

coming to LSU and showcasing his ability at an SEC school is the best thing he's done.

it turned out that way. whomever we hire would can him. face it, he dogged it here after his first few years. 2011 was his pinnacle and he just didn't recruit (or his assts) well enough to be elite.

lest you forget, Tennessee just put 700 yards on Chavis last week end (in regulation). Bama is getting ready to butt rape them tomorrow. the aggies loved Chavis because he improved their pitiful D and showed promise but they are 6-0 mainly due to their offense and newly discovered run game. he's in his second year of a 3 year contract and the longer he's there the more unhappy they will become.
