It is not his spotters fault. A PBP is practically on his own during a live ball. The spotters will help him after a play is dead with numbers, yard lines, penalty flag etc. but while the ball is in play it is all JH.
So he is older, a bit slower and he doesn't see as well and he makes mistakes. I can live with that. What I don't care for is his grumpy old man routine where he starts bitching about something or he gets incredibly negative during his PBP. What a PBP man thinks is for dead ball time. What is actually happening is for live ball time. JH forgets that sometimes and it makes his call tough to stomach sometimes.

The only habit I dislike that Hawthorne repeats every game is his penchant for getting overly negative when the opponent moves the ball.
"Gotta man wiiiiiide open, no LSU player neeeeeeeear him !!"
"And they don't cover (opponent receiver), he's wiiide open AGAIN, and...............he scores."

Other than that irritating habit, he's ok. I like his emotion..

Pretty much same thing i say and everyone else I know says when that shite happens.

What a jackass. He's been at it over 30 years and while you may dislike him, he is well respected in the industry. For instance, Finebaum will have him on as a guest every year and introduce him as the legendary voice of the Tigers. Most fan bases bitch about their play by play...like most things concerning LSU, our fans have a grandiose desire for perfection. Bama fans ridicule Eli Gold the same way. Hawthorne will retire when he decides he wants to.

And none of yall are PBP men. That's the problem. I like his passion but it also takes away from his broadcast. A good PBP man can paint the picture for you as to what is going on on the field. He is not too good at that.

I listened to him at the TAMU game then they blocked our feed?? and we had to listened to their homer of an anowncer who really SUCKED,
Be careful of what you wish for we could do a lot worse like the Arkie magpie.
Another reason I like him is I can hear his unusual tone well over bad reception when listening far away on AM, I like him.

It's getting worse. He doesn't tell u anything in regards to yardage gained or lost, just an emotional display. He used to not be this bad.
