I really hope he stays. His goals are to play as much as he can, get a degree, and follow his dad's foot steps and become a State Trooper.

He should still try out for the NFL before going through the State Trooper route. He's got the size and athleticism for that position.

He missed 2 regular season games and the bowl game due to an injury this year. That's it.

Kid should be on the field wayyyyy more than he was this year.

Wish LSU could get him on the field.

This is the kind of stuff that pisses me off. A kid like this would be being utilized at any other school.

Instead he has come to the realization that he has no shot to realize his dreams and go to the nfl because his coaches put him in a position to lose.

Same here...

It's like Miles punishes them for what they aren't (300lbs OT playing TE), instead of using them for what they are (a mismatch nightmare and a weapon in the passing game).

If Hawkins declares for the NFL, I would move Gordon to LT permanently and have Jeter and Smith as the TEs, with Smith as the pass catching specialists of the group and seeing a lot of PT.

This is what happens when you have 40 TEs on the team and forget that they can actually be used in the passing game. I guess the problem is that they are usually found in the middle of the field, an area that is strictly "off limits" for the LSU passing game

????

Smith seems like a sure NFLer to me but I'm no scout.

Do you guys ever think he may just not be that good? Just because someone was good in high school means nothing in college. There's a reason he didn't play much even when not injured.

And just to be clear, I was very high on him coming out of high school. Thought he could be a good pass catching TE but, in this offense, our TEs have to be able to block first and foremost.

The kid has real talent. I'm always surprised at our ability to recruit TEs when do NOTHING with them! He's no different. Great talent not used. We can pay lip service to using the TE more, but we never do. It's a shame and a wasted option. Whatever DSS decides, I support him.

Yeah that's it.

It's always that the player just isn't that good, rather than Les just doesn't have a clue.

Any tight end worth a damn should be able to block as well as catch. Fact is, too many come out of HS and can't OR WON'T, learn to block.
