The people that are overly critical of Daniels didn't want him to start anyway. They are either Brennan fans or wanted Nuss to start.

Simply not true.

It was obvious he had happy feet in the first half -- but even McElroy called out the awful game plan. Once the coaches got him into a rhythm, he started slinging it.

Boutte was clearly frustrated and lost focus out there, especially on the dart JD through into the endzone that hit him the chest.

Special Teams cost us the game, point blank. Daniels played well enough to win, but yes - clearly you want to see him continue to progress and look downfield when he scrambles.

Why do I even read this board anymore? Buncha idiots, per usual.

Go check out the Skyview thread. He missed open guys due to his inability to read defenses and not keeping his eyes downfield.
I wish someone would ask him why he wasn't throwing to wide open receivers. Maybe he thought he could make bigger plays by just running it instead?

He made a couple of big runs to open the game and I said then that I hoped he didn't fall into a pattern where he thought he could make big plays with his feet on every play instead of throwing it. He certainly played as though that was his strategy. At least for 3-plus quarters anyway.

My guess is that he probably didn’t think he had enough time to step up and make accurate throws in those situations, which I understand totally conflicts with the opinions of the resident coaches on this board.

look at that great route combo by DENBROCK

classic fly/out combo route. take top off making a DB decide and throwing underneath but daniels did not even see him.

you run route combos like this all the time to 1/3 of field to make a DB or S decide. curl/flats or even a post/streak combo seam/corner combo and on and on and on. or you just attack a weak DB or just run it and use PA to suck the D in and throw downfield to any open man.

until we see more of JD and NUSS you are correct

what canada did with danny was remarkable given his limitations.

He WAS making big plays running the ball. On the open drive he got LSU to the 5 before the center sailed the ball over his head. Two drives later he got LSU to the 6 before a false start pushed them back. Still, on 3rd and 11 from the 13 he literally hits a WR for what should have been a TD...except for the fact the WR apparently didn't feel like being a receiver on that play. LSU was set to get the ball back with 5:00 to go in the first half...until Nabors fumbled the punt.

In the 2nd half LSU had one 3 and out. He then led a 10 play 82 yard drive for a TD in the 3rd that started with his star WR dropping a pass on the first play of the drive. On his next possession he led a 15 play 75 yard drive for a TD. He was set to get the ball back with 2:00 minutes to go...until Nabors fumbled again. LSU shouldn't have gotten the ball back, but the FSU fumble gives them one more shot. Daniels leads the team NINETY-NINE yards in just over 1:00 to get would should have been the game tying TD. A drive where he goes 7 for 8 in addition to picking up 34 yards on the ground. And people are STILL bitching about the guy!

Would you have liked to see him hang in the pocket at bit more? Sure. But it's not like he was scrambling around taking sacks. He had 114 yards rushing. He also completed passes to 9 different players. He wasn't "perfect". But if you told me before the game he would account for 330 yards, throw two TDs and no INTs, I would have been more than happy.

I am currently re-watching the game and I have to agree with you. Jayden played a great game when you factor in what he was dealing with. He's going to win some games for us.

It was way too simple, but we couldn't execute simple very well until the 4th quarter.

what? Do you see that single high safety cheating to Boutte on that post? Thats an interception if he throws that. No way. If he was gonna throw to someone its the player on the crossing route next to 87. And thats assuming the blocking held up which in this case it isnt. So if thats Burrow he is doing what Daniels did head north and along the left sideline and pick up a 1st.

Yeah, and I remember pretty much the same type thing being said about TJ Finley after his first start at LSU. How’d that work out? Slow yo roll, a-hole.

Daniels looks just like Jennings and Harris. Run first instinct is not what i want to see in a quarterback. I'd rather a QB who was a good passer, who used his legs as a last resort. Not as a first choice.

Well looks like we don't have a better option on the roster. And he is nothing like Jennings or Harris

Yep. I commented on this during the game. He locks onto his top target then hauls arse if that's no good.

The narratives have been set regardless of video evidence and they’re going to be pushed until the season falls apart. Happens all the time here.

Which is probably the prudent thing to do given how poor the pass protection was. If he stays in the pocket any longer he is taking sacks
