For the first time, I can honestly say I question Scott Long's better judgement. Whether he intended to or not, his soothing answers to his irate mail bag letters posted today sounded too much like apologetics for maintaining the coaching status quo... like as if he too has drunk the kool aid and is the tank with CLM and BDP for the long haul.

One specific - defending Peveto for weak kicking game/inability to punt/inability to kick off into the end zone repeatedly. Has it not occurred to him and other apologists that these kickers are not weak legged sissies, but may be being coached to kick exactly as they are kicking?

I find it hard to believe that a strong-legged kicker is being coached to kick the ball out of bounds. I find it hard to believe that a punter is being coached to punt the ball only 30 yards per punt.

They LSU kickers are being coached to directional kick it. The NFL is coaching the same way this year since the ball now comes out to the 25 yrd line on a touchback like college. It was like that all during pre season. They are trying to kick it to the goal line with hang time so coverage makes the tackle before the 25 yrd line.

seriously what do you want? People like many on here? Running around screaming like spoiled little children?

Do any of you live in reality? This will play out in front of us all. Screaming for coaches heads one game into a season is quite immature. Grow up people.

Les has either lost the team and will be gone at the end of the season, or some miracle happens and this team somehow becomes something. Acting like 9 year olds in public forums does no one any good.

yes they are coaching them to shank punts. Yeap that's what it is.

I get that (directional kicking), but if the execution isn't there, then tell them to just kick it out of the back of the end zone (KO) or as far as you can (punt). LSU fans aren't griping about the strategy (directional kicking). They are griping about the results. If you can't execute the strategy, either change it...or get a better ST coach who can make it happen. It certainly isn't happening with BDP.

Well something is obviously wrong. Since Peveto re-joined, we have seen numerous special teams errors like that. He may not be coaching that specifically, but he's obviously doing something wrong.

Special teams are a disaster. No matter what it is the coaches responsibility to fix the issues. Les has allowed the issues to continue. Only reason I can figure is because him and peveto are friends. Seems to be the same issue with Cameron.

If Scott rips Les he doesn't get the access to the team that he gets now.

Wake up. This did not start one game into the season.

If you actually read what scott wrote you wouldn't come to this conclusion. He said all coaches work on special teams. He's not defending peveto, he's actually putting the blame on miles.

That shouldn't be very hard to figure out if you just put your pitchforks down.

Directional kicking isn't working for LSU last season or this 1 game so far. But we persist on forcing the issue, like we persist in ineffectiveness at QB. There is something wrong with that picture. BVP and CLM would both have the heaviest hands in perpetuating what obviously isn't working. Why not change to something that works?

Scott is using kid gloves to say the least. A lot of it amounts to lying, which is exactly what Miles does frequently with his coach speak. I don't think the game was as bad as most here think, but Scott is definitely not being completely honest for business and personal reasons.

He wants to retain his "press credentials", so he is being PC. Period.

Scott is much more of a Rantard than his dad was. Used to be that in Dandy's time as soon as LSU lost a game, I would start looking forward to him bringing me back to earth and making sense of the world again the next morning. Scott just makes me feel worse.

I noticed Scott was building this team up way too much before the season started. He is now probably going through a personal crisis just like many on this board. He is trying to be PC but you can tell that it is more difficult for him.

Yeah, I mean he's just a super fan doing his best to maintain a blog that he didn't even start. He could bring out the pitch forks, but really we have plenty of that here on this site.

Did anyone else see the Punter during warm ups punt that ball from the goal post high and towards the LSU bench? It was a long and high punt that hit around the 35 yard line. Maybe they are coaching him to (shank) drop kick? It's going to take one getting blocked to change it prolly.
