lester earl was trying to clear his name in baton rouge .. that frick head was on the take from day one .. tulane was pissed off when he signed with LSU because he took a packet of cash from them too ... dr. brian handed earl money to come to LSU ... dr. brian admitted it to the NCAA ... lester earl actually slapped his then-girlfriend in the face in the middle of a contraction while she was having HIS fricking baby ... the guy was a piece of shite .. so, i think i will pass on taking him at his word ... earl realized he had to come back to BR and face people, so he is covering his arse now ...

and comparing brown to bear bryant is laughable ... bryant won more national championships than brown won SEC championships here ... sure, he was a winner compared to press maravich and jay mccreary .. but bear bryant ?? come on ..

Dale was at LSU for 25 years I believe and I would say for about a 17 or 18 year stretch LSU was very relevant in the SEC and at times on the NCAA level.

That is about 16 or 17 more relevant seasons than TJ has had at LSU or will have at LSU!

once again, no doubt that from 1978 to 1992, dale had LSU basketball very relevant on the NCAA scene .. but does that make it OK to run the program into the ground in your last few seasons ?

For the love of god, a basketabll board needs to be put up to filter this negativity away from the football season.

That was some more recruiting ,um "tool" in the 80's. Wimp sent one of his assistants to bang Ennis Whatley's mom and the Tide stole him from UAB around that time.

this isn't negativity .. these are just cold statements of fact .. people that ignore history are doomed to repeat it ..

Oh, in 1981 and 1982 they were top dog in Ala. Charles Barkley wanted to play at UAB but they wanted him to walk-on and they'd sign him the next year.

rag, don't you know its apparently a sin at LSU to enjoy basketball. The redneck fan base doesn't like the thuggery of the team even though they probably get in less trouble than the football or baseball teams

i grew up a HUGE LSU basketball fan .. i started following them in the 1981 Final Four season ... i can't wait for the day when all of this will return to the PMAC .. i genuinely believe TJ is going to get it done here ... maybe the very people in here that are idolizing dale brown should take his lead .. daddy dale loves him some TJ ..

i think trent is a good man. I think he's a good coach too. but it doesn't matter how good of a coach a guy is if he has no players and so far his recruiting has been horrid. I hope he gets it turned around starting with on the court success this season.

don't know about the other guys, but I'm pretty sure Malone couldn't get into LSU and I know the Chief never qualified under the 1.6 rule then in effect. NCAA ruled him (and others) ineligible to play, Centenary played them anyway. Centenary was hit with some draconian sanctions -including their games not being recognized, so no stats either.

Not sure of timeline, but he may have already signed with Centenary by the time Dale was named coach. He played in 1972, the first year dale coached at LSU

My freshman year ! Got in line at noon for the Kentucky game. Tip off was at 8 and they were going to open the gates at 6. Drank beer all afternoon like a football tailgate. At 4:45 the security folks let you get out of line to go to the can and you could get back in line. At 5, no luck.

Guess who had to go and was about to bust at 5:05?

Dr. Brian?

Do you mean Dr. Redfield Bryant the former BR proctologist? You need to read or talk to someone who knows, before posting out of your Redfield.

Without Dale Brown, you have no modern day Basketball program...no Decade of NCAA tourneys.

Kinda like right now...Geaux TJ!

I'll take the NCAA's word .. who he admitted it to .. LSU got caught red-handed ... bottom line ... are you one of those people that believe the "Gestapo Bastards" just had it in for dale and fabricated the whole thing ? Brown got desperate .. his program and legacy were in a tailspin and he got busted .. you can thank Roy Williams for that ..

and who's doubting brown's contributions to LSU hoops history ? I am just laughing off the Bear Bryant comparisons ..

Dale should have stepped down after the 1993 season. I have and will always defend the 1989-1990 team's lack of advancement, but for O'Neal to not have ever made the Sweet 16 is inexcusable. The next season the team made a surprise run and lost a heartbreaker in the NCAA's.

Dale's time was up and he should have gone out on a high note.I still like and respect Dale but its hard to defend what took place on and off the court from 1994-1997.

and there are a number of people on this board privy to a lot of the truths that went on ... letting The Advocate be your history book in BR when it comes to the inner workings of the AD is laughable .. if you are over the age of 25 you should know that ...
