I wouldn’t say a lot worse.

When Mainieri took over, the best player on his team was a freshman Blake Dean who was playing in the OF... that's how bad we were.

Meanwhile, Johnson took over a team where the best player on his team was already the most complete hitter in college baseball.

With that said, it's dumb as hell to give much credit to anyone other than Johnson for whatever the end result of this season is, just like it's still dumb as shite anytime anyone tries to shite on Mainieri by saying he won with Smoke's players.

So it’s not correct to say that Miles only won cause of Saban’s players?

Damn, some of the replies here are terrible. It was absolutely time for CPM to retire but have some damn respect for a man that won a National Championship and represented LSU and LSU baseball incredibly well! There’s a reason CPM and Skip sit near one another during games.

PM left a solid program. JJ is also building a solid program.

crazy how so many discredit the fact that Mainieri, although it may not have been full, left the roster with some key players for Johnson.

Quite the difference from how Orgeron left the football team for Kelly.

It definitely was.

PM left the program in a better place but Smoke Laval’s overall and SEC record his last two years was almost identical to PM’s last two. PM also inherited signees Blake Dean, Ryan Schimpf, Sean Ochinko, Jared Michell, and holdover Louis Coleman. The cupboard wasn’t completely bare.

You are completely ignoring the situations. Lsu didnt make the field smokes last year. The program was losing fan support in a major way. The cupboard definitely wasnt bare, but blake dean came in as a pitcher and wasnt some highly touted hitting prospect. Louis coleman was one of the worst pitchers on staff who completely changed his motion and arm slot with the new coaching staff to try to find something. The locker room culture was at its lowest poinr and had to be completely re built

This is stupid. Everybody knows Jay inherited a very good roster that he simply had to maintain and add to. Everybody knows Paul is a legendary coach and Nolan was a very good recruiter. It was just time for a change. I don't think Jay is above giving credit to Paul and I don't think Paul is above still wanting the best for LSU. This isn't Paul building from scratch after Smoke. This isn't Les winning a title with a ready made roster. This is just the continuation (and hopefully enhancement) of the dominant LSU baseball program, which it has been since Skip built it. Everyone has contributed towards it. Paul certainly didn't do anything to bring it down.
