Ole Piss AIN'T turning down a 2-3 million dollar higher payday because they recruit more in Atlanta.

Won't happen.

They are going to Dallas.

They only get a certain %, the rest gets split out over the conference.

They can decline the cotton bowl invite right? or am I wrong? and yes i'm asking a serious question.

If they decline, then they stay home. They can't just tell the Cotton Bowl thanks but no thanks. At least I think that's how it works.

The SEC works with all its teams to put teams in a bowl situation that is most desirable for everyone involved and the conference as a whole.

It looks very likely that LSU goes to the Cotton and Ole Miss goes to the Peach ... I've been saying that all day in oh so many different ways but because everyone is in "catastrophe syndrome mode" they refuse to hear anything other than "we suck."

Usually LSU gets the short end of the stick with the Cotton (see 2005), but this year the circumstances are in our corner (at least in terms of getting a Cotton Bowl invite).

I can't see how the Cotton Bowl would invite LSU over Ole Miss. They beat us head-to head, are playing better ball, and would bring a lot more fans. Seems like it's a no brainer. LSU would get absolutely anniliated by Texas Tech and I seriously doubt that very many Tiger fans would make the trip. The CB would end up losing money by inviting us.

Who would they pick instead?
If Ole Miss declines the invitation, that leaves Vandy or Kentucky (after LSU).

No one's yet answered why Ole Miss would turn down the better payout -- especially since their D should be able to do enough to stop some of these offense. Oklahoma's kept Texas Tech in check, for one, and they seem like the likely pick -- so it's easy (for me, at least) to see why Ole Miss could win the Cotton Bowl, and certainly why they'd think they could win.

Still no answers.

What I'm saying is that I don't think that Ole Miss can just decline the bid in favor of a bowl they like better. This isn't the showcase showdown on the Price is Right. I'm pretty sure they can't pass on the CB if they get invited. If they do decline, they would stay home. At least that's how it used to be.

i dont want to go to the cotton bowl and get killed by tt, i would rather go beat the shite out of a weak acc team like florida state or gt.

Highly unlikely, but, let's say we do go. Wouldn't it be great if we went in there and completely annihilate whoever we play! But, like I said, highly unlikely

Ole Miss has not finished higher than 85th in the country for the past 3 years. Why the hell do you think they would turn down a prestigious New Years day bowl to go to the damn sorry arse Peach Bowl?? Some of you are freaking delusional!

If that really happens LSU should turn down a Cotton Bowl bid. LSU is doing a lot of recruiting in Texas, and it would really hurt for those potential recruits to see LSU get smashed by Texas Tech. The Peach Bowl would be the best option to play a weak ACC team. However, if it comes down to Cotton or Independance Bowl, take the Indy Bowl.

dumbest logic ever

I'm sure there are negotiations behind the scene. But I think Ole Miss could decline the Cotton Bowl invite and wait for the Peach Bowl to pick next between them, Vandy and Kentucky.
I don't see the Peach picking Vandy or Kentucky over Ole Miss.

I agree. Going to the Chicken Bowl is much more conducive to an LSU win than playing Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. LSU would lose that game and it wouldn't be pretty. Even if Malleveto makes adjustments before the bowl game, Graham Harrell would carve up LSU's secondary like a Thanksgiving turkey.

The Ole Miss fan base would riot if the Rebels turned down a New Years Day bowl for a lower tier contest.

Like I said, there is very little difference in the payout once the money is distributed. If things are like they used to be, each team will take home $1 million off the top regardless of which bowl they play in. The rest is split up in the conference.

The rumor is that they want to recruit ATL, so they want to play in the Peach-Fil-A Bowl.
More likely, they don't want an arse kicking from Texas Tech/Oklahoma/Texas.

Everyone is talking like we can actually win the Peach Bowl. Admittedly we have a better shot to win the Peach than Cotton, but with the heart this team showed on Saturday it's just as likely that we get blown out by the likes of FSU. IMO this would be WAAAAAAAY worse than getting monkey-stomped by a TTech team who would be a favorite to beat us.
