Conversation between Scott Long and Mike Detillier

LINK

Guys, this article shed a little light on things for me, as it relates to the mass exodus of underclassmen.

Getting their "football PHD" and leaving college to make $350-450 k to help support their families in tough ecomomic times!!! I get that, but agree that the issue goes much deeper than that.

I conclude that the PRIMARY reason for this exodus is due to the current coaching staff (offensive) and putrid offensive scheme that has ranked in the mid 80's for the third year in a row.

Something has to change.....AND NOW!!!!

And you'd be wrong. For Ford, maybe, but grades have always been an issue with him. Players don't leave the wam bosom of a program like LSU because the offense struggles on third down.

How in the world did you come to that conclusion when Detillier seems to lay out a good case as to it not having to do with the coaching staff?

Detillier was a bit more diplomatic, but between the lines he's saying what you are concluding. LSU needs to change its offensive coaching and scheming if the Tigers are to get back in the hunt for the SEC championship, and beyond.

I don't know who you are "agreeing" with there skippy. Mike Detillier didn't suggest anything "deeper."

re: Conversation between Scott Long and Mike Detillier

Scott: What's the key for LSU in 2013 to get back to the top of the SEC?

Mike: Scott, they will be a good football team and they have tremendous talent along the offensive line, at linebacker and they have pretty good depth at halfback and in the secondary. The key is to develop Zach Mettenberger into a more consistent downfield passer, have better pocket presence and upgrade the passing attack. They just don't use their backs and tight end enough in their passing offense and the same issues that plagued Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee are now coming into play with Mettenberger.

There needs to be a change in this offense from a coaching standpoint and from a scheme standpoint. They will always be a good running team, but they need to fully develop Zach's overall skills as a passer and be better at using all the weapons, especially the backs and tight ends, in their passing attack.
Choc - what part of this don't you get?

The thought crossed my mind for sure, whether it's the case or not, who knows?

re: Conversation between Scott Long and Mike Detillier
The parts of the interview you highlighted were in response to this:

quote:

Scott: What's the key for LSU in 2013 to get back to the top of the SEC?

Those answers had NOTHING to do with why the players left early for the NFL.

He summed this up nicely by responding to that idea point blank:

quote:

Is it just a matter of talent or is there something else about this that is more troubling?

Mike: Scott, It is all about talent and a moment in time.

He then goes through every single player listing why they left, and NONE of them have anything to do with our offensive production.

The OP is saying the two are related. They aren't.

the OPs conclusion was that players were leaving because of the offense....which is false.

we all know the offense needs to get better....i don't need anyone to tell me that.

Saban changed the way LSU fans looked at themselves and even gave their old ways a name — “catastrophe syndrome.”

Saban couldn't have been more right about the "catastrophe syndrome". Flip though a few threads on here and it's obvious.

U should apply for CNN or the Obama admin, for the spin move you just put on. Best one I've seen since watching Eddie Lacy.

Correction...Players don't leave the warm bosom of a program like LSU because the offense struggles on first, second and third downs. Eight 3 and outs against a Clemson defense

It really is funny. The same "fans" obsessed with Saban and what he is doing at Bama, not to mention revising history of his time and accomplishments at LSU, are the very group of people that made life in BR so difficult for Saban.

Rantards....

re: Conversation between Scott Long and Mike Detillier
players left for money.

what we should focus on is what he said about offense. I've said for years we have to throw to tight ends and backs. not because i'm a genius, but because it's obvious. you've got 5 eligible receivers in the game at one time. it is hard for the defense to cover them all, if they are all potential targets.

ESp if your qb is immobile, you have got to throw to backs and te's.
