Dallas, Houston, Tennessee, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, and Miami are all in states with no state tax. Something to think about for him.

Why do you bring that into this thread?

Seattle too

You pay income tax in the state each game is played in which offsets it a bit

And it is less of an advantage if he wants to buy a place

Even if I believed this, if Saints offer highest contract, he'll be a Saint.

It's not a bidding war from what we understand. There is a maximum he can be paid, period.

So this truly will be whoever he wants to play for will be for the same amount of money for his initial contract.

Huh? So if I work for a company in Louisiana & they send me to Illinois for 3 weeks to work, I have to pay their state tax for 3 weeks of my pay along with pay being taxed in Louisiana as well?

That just doesn't sound right, I'm not a tax attorney nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either so IDK

Although this sucks as an Saints fan, I understand. He came to LSU that is good enough for me.

But it is true
quote:

Athletes file taxes not only in their home state but also in every state—and some cities—in which they play. Not every state uses the same calculation to determine what portion of an athlete’s income to tax, and some use different calculations based on the sport. For example, Pennsylvania taxes baseball, basketball and hockey players on the ratio games in the state over total games played, including pre- and postseason, but they tax football players based on days worked in the state over total days worked. Michigan uses the same method but excludes the preseason. Most other states use the days worked method.

If Collins is innocent, would he want to be here to make sure the killer was found and prosecuted? I think I would. I would demand justice for my off-spring. And work towards it.

WTF?! He is a football player not Batman. I am sure the police can manage without him.

come on, man. "See new things" means to experience other places. And you're nuts if you don't think players "take in the local scene" where they play. It's where they live for at least 5 months each year, and some live there year-round.

It's healthy for a person to do this. Nothing really wrong with living in one place your entire life, but it's good to get away and see other places (and by "see" I don't mean visit on vacation).

This may work out well for him. He gets to pick his team now and pick the best situation.

Still messed up that this even happened.

if he's smart, he'll go to a team in a state that doesn't have income tax, along with a place where he'll get a chance to get on the field early and often, to prove his worth for that 2nd contract...

i know it doesn't make sense to us, that a guy from Louisiana that played at LSU wouldn't want to play for the Saints, but that can be the case at times.... i remember last year talking to Trai Turner before the draft, and asking him who he wanted to be drafted by, of course expecting it to be his hometown team the Saints, but he couldn't get Miami out of his mouth fast enough... said he never was a Saints fan...

Saints have a better shot at signing Kate Upton than La'el Collins.

Not on the record, Rex Ryan was passing through after visiting with his brother in Nola. The current Dolphins' and former Tigers' were the only ones who made the trip from Miami, no other employees. It was a "recruiting" visit.

Well, ok. he doesn't want to live in Louisiana. Also that's a lie that they "don't take in the local scene". I bet Jarvis is living it up in Miami, and Blue is doing the same in the Houston nightlife. Also, the tax breaks in some places.
