comment anticipated and incorporated in the OP. Agreed. But until you get your hands on a DeLorean, we'll address what time allows us to.

1) First was the takeover and 6-2 finish to last season with a piecemeal approach on-the-fly?

On what fly? Was already on the staff, dont believe he flew anywhere or moved.
Loaded team with the right QB under center. (The Harris experiment finally put to pasture)
Horrible loss at HOME to a 2 TD underdog and zero points scored at HOME against the Gumps. Didnt play to win. No change at QB just tried to keep game close. 50 coaches couldve went 6-2 with that schedule and most wouldve went 7-1 and scored a point.
C-

2) Next, as the official coach, was the team constraining the Heisman winner and Petrino's Cards. Grade in Louisville win = A.

Fair enough.

3) Then, was getting Coach Canada and retaining/signing Aranda.

Arranda was under contract. Zero credit for keeping him.
Way to early to tell. But anyone is most likely an upgrade to Cam Cameron and with a million dollars, shouldve been able to get an upgrade.
Grade = TBD

4) The stellar recruiting class.

7th is not stellar. Almost blew both QB commitments making a rookie mistake. Class was already loaded when he took the helm. Lost out on several big time in state prospects. Without Arranda who knows how it wouldve turned out. B-

5) Now, there is the 27-0 win over BYU. Grade = TBD. Portland State had more 1st downs than BYU in the first game. Defensively A+. Offensively TBD

6)The proof is in the pudding.

The pudding and the proof is still in the box. Inherited a Ferrari and was already on staff.

7) We all know that the real pudding test comes as the year progresses, and the big SEC games are engaged.

Finally some objectivity.

Why would anybody whine about who's players they are? Orgeron is the head coach. They're his players now. Unless of course you're talking about all the whiners that have claimed over the years that Miles won with Sabans' players.

Bottom line, this is Coach O's team now.

He won with 5 freshmen starters and 17(the most ever) true freshmen getting time. Obviously he had to use some but it seems he almost purposefully won WITHOUT Miles players if/where possible.

Not sure how you can give 6-2 a B+ when everybody started out saying he should get the job if he wins out.. then moved the goalpost for each loss. I'm fairly certain Les Miles would've finished out 6-2 as well. If anything this should be a C at most.

Yeah it would really suck to lose him to another SEC team, worst possible scenario.

Interim or not last year he was the Coache and there was plenty of adversity. Agree with OP he's done a good job so far. This looks like a different program than miles last 5

I failed to see the part where Aranda had signed a deal to leave LSU in your link. Maybe I misread.

zero credit for keeping Aranda? Do you think Dave stays for any head coach? Do you think LSU would have paid Dave what we did if we would have had to pay $6-7 million per year to Jimbo? C'mon man

No credit on recruiting? No kudos for keeping a class largely intact following a coaching change plus adding studs like Chaisson at the end?

Consider this article, written about Tom Herman and excusing his terrible recruiting haul. Here's the key quote:

"As is often the case, coaching changes are typically followed by reduced recruiting hauls - both in terms of quality and quantity - and Texas isn't any exception."

That's right, Tom Herman was not exceptional. You know who was? Coach O.

And BYU being a TBD? C'mon man. BYU had less rushing yards than points and they had zero points. I don't care if they go 5-7, that's utter dominance. Sure, the offense got bogged down in the red zone. We should have scored more than 27. So give it an A- or a B+.

To give it a TBD betrays your bias: that hiring O was a mistake so you will use every minor hiccup as validation and dismiss every success as either unimpressive or TBD.

The OP's point is that so far, Coach O has done a good job. He is 8-2. His team was dominant in the bowl game. He did great in recruiting. He hired a promising OC. The offense has been much better under O. He had them ready go for game one and they dominated their lone opponent.

Give the man a chance and quit prejudging.

Nah. That's a Bayou boy. It's probably "tart á la bouille". Or as it's pronounced dow the Bayou, "Ta Ta Bouille".

Why?

Because he may be a worse hire than Tom Herman at UT. Aranda has never even been a head coach.

Article: Tom Herman says Texas Longhorns fans received 'a heavy dose of reality' in Maryland loss
https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/collegesports/2017/09/04/tom-herman-saystexas-fans-received-heavy-dose-reality-vs-maryland-highlights-big-12-teleconference

Post from the More Sports board in the thread "The state of FBS football in Texas is... questionable"

quote:

THe last loss was 100% on Herman. Fourth and goal he should have kicked the fg. Fourth down let he should have punted. Set his offense up with bad field position slamming his headset after the block fg td.

We were told all offseason it was coaching holding them back. Anyone who believes Maryland hs superior talent is only lying to themselves. Texas lost that game on coaching and coaching alone. Poorly prepared team

Texas fans received a dose of reality hiring a coach who can't get his team up to play an undermanned Maryland team. Then he blames it on the coaches and players and says over and over he won't throw anybody under the bus. Says the schemes and systems were correct and are good to go. But, it's not his fault UT lost.

Listening to the Tom Herman coaches shows, you would still think he was a "GOD". The assistant coaches messed up, the players messed up, but everything he has done was on point.'

He made horrible call after horrible call in that game but he won't throw players or assistant coaches under the bus.

That's big of him. I wonder how many UT commits LSU gets from that debacle.
