They hit a double late in the game and I can no longer remember the phrase but he made it sound foul. All his fly ball remarks he never says where it is hit or how far.

I know the play you're talking about. There were 2 outs in the 9th and 2 strikes on the Bama hitter. When the pitch was made he said "he got a piece of it" which made me think he fouled it off the catchers mitt or the back stop. Turned out to be an RBI double.

Jim made mistakes, Chris is going to make mistakes, Vin Scully still makes mistakes-it happens all the time to even the best broadcasters.

I've done high school sports for a few years and you'd be surprised at just how hard it is to stay on top of everything. It'll definitely give you a deeper appreciation for the guys that do it year-round. Super fun gig, though.

but he tries to use some of Jim's terms during the broadcast that just doesn't sound right unless Jim says it his way. The "Tigers Win, Tigers Win" sounds odd. There are another one or two that escape me, but he needs his own thing.

Geez, shut the frick up

The few times I have listened to Blair he has a little of a Bob Costa feel. He just seems a little too good.

I like my PBP guy to be excitable and biased to LSU side of things.

That's a little Milo Hamilton-ish, who I could not stand. But Blair seems much more likable than Milo from interviews I've heard with him.

I heard part of his first baseball call and a couple of other baseball games on the weekends in the early part of the season.

He's boring as shite. Maybe that's what they wanted. I haven't heard him try to deviate or spice it up, yet, but sounds like he's struggling to find his niche.

Say what you want about Jim - he was never boring.

LSU is lucky to have Chris Blair. Glad he is on board and will get even better with time. Glad to have someone that I can actually follow what is going on in the game when I am unable to watch it.

WHAT! The Rantsters miss Jim Hawthorne? After months of bashing him the "fans" want him back? Anyone can make a mistake but it is a tough job. Even the "Jack Hunt" call was in the midst of a Top Ten moment in LSU football history. I cooked a sack of mudbugs while listening to the game. NO it wasn't terribly exciting to listen to yet another hit free marathon but it did liven up in the 8th. I'm bot sure about Doug Thompson as I did enjoy Charlie but I thonk we have our man in Chris Blair. He will find his "zone" but for now he is trying to satify a group of unsatisfiable people.

I still have yet listen to his call and watch the game on tv. It used to be hilarious to do this with hawthorn and wonder if you are watching the correct game.

For the record I did like hawthorn even with his flaws.

What's your point? Big time college jobs don't come open very often, and when they do they don't turn them over to rookies. For example, LSU has had exactly 2 radio play by play announcers from 1946-2016. Chris has worked his way up the broadcasting ladder and I'm certain will do a fantastic job.

Blair is great but he doesn't help Doug out at all. It seems like this is happening quite a bit:
Doug: "I think you would agree Chris if the Tigers would....blah, blah, blah."
Blair: "2 balls & 2 strikes, nobody on bottom 3."
That's it. Just moves right past it. Like I said, I think Blair is awesome but the lack of rapport between him & Doug makes it a bit awkward at times.

Listened to him for the first time this weekend and was impressed. I thought he was really good, and better than Hawthorne. Hearing a different voice than Hawthorne will take some getting used to though.

New voices have to "grow" on you , like a fine wine . After awhile you expect to hear that voice . Same with Hawthorne, Ferguson,Politz......

Would you please enlighten us all with the correct info?

I've got John Ferguson from 1946-1984. Hawthorne from 1984-2016.

So you think that was John Ferguson calling Billy Cannon's famous Halloween night run in 1959??
