Chavis felt his defense was under unnecessary strain?

I could have understood a line like: "we lost too many to NFL" or "we saw things differently from a strategic standpoint" BUT unnecessary strain..........

Sorry we expected you to stop people on the final drive Chavis! We will apologize in advance for that.

Is Chavis really this dense? Does he think by moving to A&M his defense won't be under unnecessary strain?

I think Chavis personally never had a problem with anything at LSU until Muschamp got 1.6 million.....Then, his eyes lit up.

quote:

Those who know him best had sensed he was less than happy during the past year at LSU. He felt that his defense was under unnecessary strain because of the Tigers' offensive inconsistency.

I'm quoting that whacky article from the Tennessean and of course referencing what we've all heard through the internet.

He prefers not having a lead at the end to piss away.

He felt concern that Miles may be on the way out and wanted job security which Alleva would not give him.

It is really that simple.

I mean... Is it really that far-fetched? Yeah, we had good TOP on offense at times (which kept his D's fresh), but we didn't exactly light up the scoreboard. His defenses kept us in a number of ball games. There's really no debating that.

The only statistic that adds unnecessary strain on the defense is time of posession. Bad TOP=defense getting fatigued throughout the game. LSU's time of posession happens to be one of the best in the country. Chavis left because he wanted more money to add to his retirement fund, period. Chavis is currently filing a lawsuit against his ex and current (wtf) employer over $400k. The guy is all about the money at this point in his career and anybody that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

I've lost a lot of respect for him the past few months. I understand his move to A&M was a money grab so I don't begrudge him that at all, but at least be a man about it. I first thought he mishandled this whole ordeal when he was in back room negotiations with A&M when LSU still had a bowl game to prep for (we all see the product he put on the field). Then, when he left, he didn't even tell his own players. Now, he's suing LSU over a contract he breached?

Ordinarily I wish former LSU coaches the best when they leave. This guy can DIAF for all I care.

If Chavis just started feeling this "unnecessary strain" this past year, he must have been taking naps in the press box over the last 6 years, minus 2013.

I agree with Chavis. The defense wasn't the only thing under strain and attendance tends to agree with me

The offense not scoring, even if they hold the ball for a long time, means the defense has to hold the other team to lower point totals than if the offense was scoring more. Seems pretty simple to me.

Yes. He was basically shielded from criticism because of the offense.

Thats his fricking job bro.......When you perennially field NFL caliber defensive players and are called DBU across the nation, your fricking job is have a bad arse defense.....no matter what is on the other side of the field.

Well, he deserves some shielding from criticism. Our offense was fricking putrid and without that defense we may have not have won an SEC game last year.

That's kind of exactly what he did.

No doubt, certainly it will be much easier with a high-powered offense where he doesn't have to worry about having a great defense. He'll probably be able to get out and golf a couple of times a week now.

The defenses' goal should be to make the opposing offense go 3 and out every possession anyway whether the score is 50-0 or 0-50 they pretty much put the same amount of pressure on themselves to shut the other team down. TOP is the only stat that adds legitimate physical stress to the defense. Our defense feeling extra pressure to keep the other team out of the endzone for one series at the end of a game because our offense doesn't put up a lot of points isn't nearly as bad as if our defense only got 30 seconds of rest between appearances because our TOP sucks

He seems to think it was under unnecessary strain man......I thought it didn't show up against Wisconsin in the 1st half, and was fricking clueless against Auburn.

In fact, I felt after we toned the offense into a RUN only approach our defense actually got better......but hey what the frick do I know.

I don't see what's so hard to grasp here:

More points on offense = less pressure on defense

Less points on offense = more pressure on defense

Not far fetched, but that's just a shot at the other coaches and has little or nothing to do with him leaving. I can understand him being frustrated like everyone else.

And when our offense was best in school history his defense was still good for two blown games in the closing minutes.

I always thought it was lead on offense =less pressure on defense.

A D coordinator can't realistically think that an offense is going to out score everyone.....
