fricking awesome article.

I love the fact that Tennessee's defense held Florida to its lowest output last season.

We are going to load the box to stuff the run and make Brantley beat us with his arm.

It doesn't seem to be working for us.

Steve Eubanks on Fox Sports
quote:

The Gators defense is ranked second in the country in points per game (7.3) and third in total yards (212.8). The Tigers don't fare as well. They're 88th in total yards allowed, 81st in rushing defense, and 101st in getting to the quarterback with only five sacks in five games, none in the last three. If those numbers don't improve, it won't matter if Florida has Tim Tebow or Tim Conway taking snaps.

Each LSU player has to win their individual battle on every play. If we do that we win.

Actually, the facts accord perfectly with the article. Chavis said that the Tigers need to make improvements, but that they are progressing from game to game. And indeed, LSU's defense just had its best outing against UGA on the road.

You can't use some sort of ridiculous aggregate season ranking to determine whether or not the team is improving over time. By definition, those aggregate rankings incorporate poorer, early season performances (videlicet, the one against UW).

I guess you can ignore that remaining SEC teams on our schedule are all arguably better than any of the SEC teams we've played so far. At best you can maybe say that UGA is as good as or slightly better than Ark & OM up to this date.
But Vandy, Miss St, Wash, ULL????? please. The current, shitty rankings are based on playing some pretty crappy teams.

Man, you guys love to pump sunshine.
The facts are facts & the defense is ranked terrible & has played 1 very good half this season. Take the 2nd half vs UGA & stretch it for a full game and that's not a good game (almost 500 yds given up). You can't look at the dominant 1st half (which is definitely was) and ignore the poor 2nd half. Those are facts. And by your reasoning, the team is not imporving over time since the last half they played was bad & the last quarter was worse. Spin it any way you want.

Chavis' defense has done okay vs. UF. It's the offense and special teams that has screwed the defense with short fields and TDs. If I'm not mistaken the Tennessee D held UF to 270 yards or so last year. Kinda tough to keep them off the scoreboard when the average starting field position is the UT 35 though.

ETA:
quote:

While Chavis has yet to beat Meyer in four tries, he’s had some success in holding the Gators well under their averages offensively.

Florida won 16-7 in 2005, 21-20 in 2006 and 30-6 last season. Chavis’ defense held the Gators to two offensive touchdowns and a season-low 243 yards a year ago. Nobody else held the Gators under 350 yards all season on their way to the national championship.

The 2007 game was the exception. The Vols had pulled within 28-20 on Eric Berry’s interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter, but the Gators poured it on from there and pinned a humiliating 59-20 beating on the Vols at the Swamp.

“What you’re always looking for is the win, but three of the four years we’ve played Urban, we’ve been very respectable on defense,” Chavis said. “That’s not what you’re looking for. You’re looking for the victory, but in three of those games, our defense played well enough to win.

I'll be as drunk as anyone & hollering as loud as anyone from my seats Sat night.
I'd just like to see this team perform like we all think they can. We know the luck won't last forever. Just look at last year.

Your maturity and eloquence are astonishing. Thanks, truly, for sharing your wisdom with us. How wrong I was to quote from a national commentator. I will never defame or discredit the Tigers by sharing articles with fellow fans.

Peace.
