The team should still have won the game, even if Chavis mailed it in. It's not as though he didn't show up and took all the playbooks.

So were the players supposed to make halftime adjustments for themselves? Seemed like he made no adjustments at all during the game. Also saw that they knew prior to the game (once they got go the stadium). You don't think that had an effect?

I've read a lot of ND articles since then. Zaire, CJ Prosise (sp?) were surprises for them in that game. I mean their rushing percormance was a big surpise. That team had a very pedestrian run game, yet they went up and down against us.

In case you hadn't realized, we held our prior 6 opponents to less than 138 rushing yards (4 less than 107 rushing yards) and 4.04 ypc (4 less than 3.85 ypc). Notre Dame who averaged 150.8 ypg and 4.18 ypc, ran for 263 yards on 5.16 ypc on us.

do you think Chavis' in game coaching of the defense during the bowl game with Notre Dame was directly impacted?

1. Chavis knew he was leaving.
2. There was bad blood between him and LSU.
3. With a month to prepare, the defense played its worst game since the Auburn game nearly 3 months earlier.

I'd say it's pretty obvious his coaching in the bowl game was impacted.

I remember when Les was asked during his post game conference what his thoughts were about the rumors of Chavis leaving, he replied " I don't give a damn." Les may have known that something was not right with the defensive calling that game.

If Les had any clue that Chavis was mailing it in, he should have suspended him and had one of the other defensive assistants serve as DC for that game. And honestly, how could he not have known? In a month leading up to the game, nobody noticed the DC wasn't doing anything but talking on the phone to A&M? Nobody? How could that be possible? It was a huge blunder by Miles to let this happen.

I am convinced that Chavis knew he was leaving. I just hope he had the integrity to play it out to the end on a professional level instead of "giving up" or not giving it his best during the game.

He did know he was leaving and he did not have the integrity to keep doing his job until it wasn't his job any more. Worse, he actively sabotaged the team in the game, intentionally causing us to lose to hurt us in recruiting. He knows football, but he obviously lacks any kind of class or decency.

Maybe that was what broke the camels back.. Chavis was tired of coaching a strong D when the offense was VERY ineffective almost every game against quality teams... NOW what he did during the time leading up to the bowl game was way wrong. I agree. But these players had played he whole year. They had their chances against ND, But it looked to me like it was the same D that played against MSU and AU........And at that point Chavis wasn't going anywhere... Bottom line is that it looks like some LSU fans just are looking for something to continue to cry about.. They are the most spoiled fanbase in the country.... I watched the whole game and it looked like the D showed up and was playing the best they could. ND just outsmarted LSU's D... IMO the outcome would have been the same had Chavis NOT done anything with A & M........

Personell adjustments were made after auburn. That's why you saw a better defense. Adjustments that were probably forced by Mikes because they coincide with him ripping the defense. Just like the o reverting back to the 30s style. And it worked until the Arkansas game.

What we saw against nd was a d that made no adjustments and couldn't get off the field. Nd had their way with us, not allowing LSU to control the game on the ground.

Go pelini coached the bcs title game and everyone in the country knew he was taking the job. It worked out fine. I think chavis was a lil more secretive about it. Why fire your pool boy for spilling the beans? Why go after the money if we knew all along he was leaving? This deal seems like it happened behind the scenes.

I don't think Chavis wanted to leave but that clause was the dealbreaker. If he wanted to leave he would have left before bowl practices would have started.
Maybe Alleva wanted him to leave?
LSU assistants are paid a lot of money and it's not like LSU hasn't renewed most of them as long as the production is there.

He knew he leaving, but he wasn't going to leave until the time when he didn't have to pay the buyout. He was a lame duck

He of a 130,000 post talking bout others crying makes me

But it looked to me like it was the same D

LSU D allowed 17.5 pts per game for the yr., 150 yds rush a game, and our O scored 27 pts a game.

ND scored 31 pts, rushed for 270 yds., and we scored 28.

If that LSU D looked like the same one we had all yr. to you, you need to have your eyes checked.

Chavis was prolly distracted but the game was lost when we inexplicably stopped giving LF touches.

quote:So what about the Arkie game... The D did its job and the offense came up short.[VERY SHORT].

Yes, the offense was anemic in the Rkansas game and Chavis did his job with the D, then. But to rationalize that because of that Chavis was justified in mailing it in against ND and to label objections to that as whiny is itself an extended whine about our offensive shortcomings.

The whole point about the Chavis/LSU/A&M lawsuit, though, is about his failure to coach to the best of his abilities or at the very least his conflicted interest by being invested in A&M while being paid by LSU. That is the issue here. Wanting to leave is his right, whatever the motivation, but he can't have his cake and eat it, too. As long as he was under contract with LSU, he had the responsibility to carry out the terms of that contract in good faith. The ND game, here, is a speculative observation of his breaking that contract.

Yeah, Miles should have asked Chavis for his cell phone record of calls to see who he was talking to.

And I'm sure the conversations between A&M and chavis took place in public for all to see.

We can put results of games on Miles' back, but get out of here with blaming Miles for the crappy actions of a DC being paid by LSU since 09.

It looked to me like the defensive coaching was as bad as I've ever seen at LSU. Maybe he was doing his best to not throw the game and harm LSU's momentum with recruiting. If he was doing his best, all the better he's gone.

THAT is the issue here. He was still under contract with LSU and should have displayed professionalism and coached his arse off to the very end. But it appears that he did not put out his best effort because he know he was leaving. And THAT is lacking integrity.

All the Chavis junk may be true but we lost the game because we had no QB play and a CLM would not try anything different - repeat of 1/9
