Chase playing another year in college could only hurt his draft stock. He already proved he was the best WR in college football last season

Not necessarily. By opting out, Chase is staying pat. And running a little risk that the NFL GMs question if he is selfish (I think this latter point is not huge in this COVID season, but we'll never no if he slides from 5 to 8 or 9 on boards as a result). But what it does do is give others the opportunity to one up you. Chase had one really, really, really great season. If he comes out and gets another 70, 1,000 and 10 TD season, he has a validating season, even if less impressive than last year. By not playing, he leaves open the door for someone else to have a season like he had in 2019. He opens the door for Devonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle (or even Terrace Marshall) to leap frog him.

Clearly he understood that and thinks staying pat is the right play. And I probably agree with him that it is. But it is not without risk.

Kary should probably slow his roll. He'll get a shot at the NFL, no doubt, but he's not exactly a sure thing to stick.

That's simply not true. There may be an argument that the risk to his stock is greater playing than not playing, but he is not the unquestionable top WR taken regardless if he plays or not. There are certainly a handful of receivers that haven't opted out that could jump him, which, if we look at the slot values could cost him $10MM. The difference in signing bonuses between a top 5 pick and a top 15-20 pick is about $10MM. Him playing and having another good season could solidify him in his current projected slot. Now, he just has to hope others don't pass him while he sits at home. His play is what got him his stock. He's not a genetic freak that is 6'4" and runs a 4.3 40.

I buy a jersey every fall of my favorite tiger from the past year for my man cave. JC was going to be that guy next fall. I understand his business decision, but he will have to understand my decision when his jersey doesn't hang with Devon, Joe and others.lol.

you are correct. We need to understand the need they have to supply food, shelter and necessities for their families that are struggling.

It would be hard to improve his stock already and we get to develop our young talent in a throw away season. Win Win.

I think every sane person on this board who didn't want to drive a political agenda already knew this was COVID-related and not BLM-related.

But let's not act like "all of a sudden" the covid risk simply became too much to bear.

The COVID risk is more about how affects the team than chances of it really affecting a healthy player. It is easily foreseable that Chase could get exposed and have to miss two games, QBs miss two weeks, or like what happened the O-line is out. Suddenly you are playing on a team that is a shell of what it was.

If 2016 was a COVID year where we played a 10game schedule, and we won the natty in 2015, and Fournette blew up the title game for 200yds, and Big10 and Pac12 cancelled and the entire 2016 OL just got quarantined for two weeks......yea it’s likely Fournette doesn’t play a 2016 season assuming he dominated the 2015 year like Chase did 2019 en route to a natty.

So nothing to the rumors that Brennan isn't putting it together like expected and Chase felt he wasn't going to have any opportunity to further his prospects?

I don't hold anything against Chase whatsoever. He was absolutely GOATED as a Tiger and was a great leader while there. I do not, however, buy into the whole thing about feeling insecure about Covid while being constantly surrounded by some of the best medical staff in the U.S.

Opting out because it is a smart thing to do for a sure 1st rounder in the middle of a makeshift season is one thing but acting like being a football players at LSU is unsafe because of Covid-19 is just not realistic to me.
