After hearing Charlie a few minutes ago I’m at ease about Chase opting out. He said this had nothing to do with Ryan Clark or the protest on Friday. He said he thinks two things changed from June until now. First, back in the summer everybody was still planning on playing all the games this season. Now that has changed with big 10 and pac 10 not playing. This season will be non normal and is it worth it risking injury. Second, we had an outbreak last week on the team and that probably made him uncomfortable. If he goes workout somewhere he will be by himself or just a few people compared to a whole team when it comes to Covid concerns. Charlie said what agents offer upfront to players to workout is from January through April. With the Covid situation, agents are able to offer the same thing and more money from August through April. He will have guaranteed money that he has never seen before and you never know what his family situation is. Another thing I just thought about is last week there were pictures of Ja’Marr Chase and Karey Vincent buying jewelry and that didn’t look cheap. Those two players have opted out. Good luck to Chase and his future.

JC is doing what is good for him in a crazy situation with covid and all. At the end of the day it's his decision. It also doesn't bother me as much as it would because this is going to be a wacky season. If you are going to have a season to maximize younger guys reps this would be it. This is a good gear-up year for 2021 which is the real show.

Then why are Lawrence, Hubbard and Eittiene still playing?

Jamar Chase has put in the work and established his market value. Some unproven engineering student without a degree doesn't have that option.

on Chase opting out

people getting mad, acting like Chase "owes" it to them to play for their favorite college team are fricking ludicrous... dude just helped that team win a NC last year, yet he still OWES you something?? get the frick out of here with that stupid shite.... the guy is a top 10 pick, regardless of what he does this year, so he has no incentive to risk injury, and as short of a window of opportunity it is to play in the NFL and make millions, I don't blame him not wanting to risk injury and fricking up that possibility...

This argument doesn't even make sense.

at people still thinking COVID is of any real health concern to a healthy person in their early 20's

Yeah, lets change my environment from a group of young men and older men who all work out and eat healthy and have essentially been quarantined together for months now...

... to people of all ages from geographically diverse areas

Hubbbard and Etiene want to prove they’re better than the other one

Lawrence’s leadership is probably 1/3 of why he would go #1. His production is good but not amazing. He wins and that is his brand.

Pat McAfee has a podcast on this. He said you are like I’m not gonna do stupid stuff with my money, I’ll invest and be smart. Then you get your first real taste of big money and go completely retarded. He bought a regulation wwf wrestling ring, amphibious car, and a few others.

So it was "worth the risk" if LSU would still be playing Rice, UTSA, Nichols and Texas? If anything, there is LESS risk because they are playing LESS games. That point makes no sense whatsoever. Hell, without the Big 10 and Pac 12 there would be an even bigger spotlight on Chase.

Perhaps. But at this point there is really nothing "new" about Covid risk

quote:

Charlie said what agents offer upfront to players to workout is from January through April. With the Covid situation, agents are able to offer the same thing and more money from August through April. This is WHY he is opting out. Agents have come in a (cough, cough) guaranteed to front him a fairly large some of money to skip the season and convinced him it is the right think to do because of the heightened "risk" (which is probably BS). Now, he very well could have decided "I'm a first round pick regardless of this season and securing a top 5 spot isn't that big of a deal." I would understand that thought process. But let's not act like "all of a sudden" the covid risk simply became too much to bear. This is simply a case where the financial benefits of skipping the season outweighed whatever desire he had to play. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Chase playing another year in college could only hurt his draft stock. He already proved he was the best WR in college football last season

From his point of view it is all about whether he can match his last year's performance with a new QB. While opting out may look a safer bet it could go against him too. You never know how the NFL owners view this.

Probably because Clemson hasn’t any big breakouts like LSU recently did. I mean we only had 4 OL at practice because the unit was almost completely wiped out with it.

Excellent point. I don't think we're going to see many/any bowls, and we're not getting any bigtime P5 matchups. We will be missing at least 1 legit national contender (Ohio State) entirely, unless the Big 10 flipflops yet again.

2020 is just basically going to be an exhibition. The goal is to see the LSU uniforms on display, not to worry about navigating a real season.

I think most of the board was just shocked and disappointed yesterday. They weren't mad at Chase directly. Were just mad at the chance Ryan Clark's shenanigans or some slimey agent getting to him... But in reality it wasn't anger. It was sadness that we may never see what could have been the greatest WR or even Non Quarterback player in LSU's history play again. That's what it is for me. I was gonna by a 1 jersery(well 7 after the fact) because Jamarr was easily my favorite player. Well him and Stingley. Guess that 24 jersey is gonna look nice in my closet next to my National Championship Joey B jersey
