Prior to 2009 season CBS had first choice as to which SEC game (SEC home team) they would televise and move to afternoon kickoff. With the new contract between ESPN and the SEC, does ESPN have first rights to game choice, rights to move game times to afternoon starts, or does CBS still control the afternoon kickoff time, but selects the game after ESPN has made its selections or selections (ESPN2) ? Anyone have a link? Also, what is LSU record on CBS and on ESPN?

FWIW, all of our losses in 07 and 08 were on CBS.

What possible difference does that make?

Gametime I can understand? But network has no bearing on LSUs record.

How hard is this to understand. CBS is still the primary broadcaster of the SEC. CBS still gets first choice and now gets it EVERY WEEK. ESPN just has rights to the CBS leftovers.

Mojo.

Seriously, The CBS games were all afternoon games (accept UF). The ESPN games were all night games (accecpt for App St.)

So yeah, it's all about kick off time IMHO.

and has nothing to do with who we are playing and how good/bad LSU plays.

Was it CBS or ESPN and at what time was the Troy St game this year.

I would venture to guess that all teams struggle on CBS over the long run because generally a team's "toughest" games are the ones picked to be broadcast on CBS. Just a guess, but I doubt there's few - if any - SEC teams that have a great record on CBS.

Let me spell it out for you smartass:

The PERCEPTION is that we play better football at night. And there seems to be a good reason for this:

LINK

In the 9th paragraph:

"Since that first night game in 1931, LSU has played the majority of its games at night and the Tigers have fared much better under the lights than during the day. Since 1960, LSU is 206-59-3 (.774) at night in Tiger Stadium compared to a 20-23-3 (.467) record during the day over that span."

Dude, you're using a game that we WON as your *sole* example?

I'd have to agree with that. But I think that if all of those games are at night we would probably fair a little better. Over the last 2 years, we've lost to Kentucky, Ole Miss and Arkansas (twice) during the day. I don't think they were a great deal better than last years VT or this year's GT.

Which makes perfect sense.

Since CBS began airing the SEC Games, they commonly select the best games which, by definition, would pit LSU against another very solid team.

Therefore, the probabilty of losing said game rises drastically. Please look over the 23 loses and where our opponent was ranked at the time. You will find it relative.

The article said that this record went back to 1960. CBS didn't pick up the SEC until sometime in the early 90's I believe.

Too lazy to look up the record so I suppose we will have to agree to disagree (unless you pull it). But I'm pretty sure that if you asked most coaches, players and fans if they preferred a noon kick off to a 7:30 kick off against UF next season they would you.

Zereaux

I dont disagree with playing at night vs day.

I disagree with the insinuation that CBS has anything to do with the outcome of LSU Games.

Plus, Im too lazy myself.

Don't forget we haven't lost a Saturday Night game in Death Valley since 2002. Just saying . . .

Gotcha...didn't mean to imply that at all.

Wouldn't highly ranked opponents be a significant factor in this record, as well as a factor in the games being moved up?

Perhaps in the CBS-SEC era, but before that?

But the premis of the thread was CBS which would infer the CBS era and not pre CBS.
