CBS will surely pick the Florida @ LSU game for their one primetime broadcast in 2009. Other than that, give me as many of those 6:45 ESPN games as LSU can get.

Even though Traci Wolfson is an uber-MILF......

so, in your analysis, the only variable is time of start? You didn't control for any other variables (team rankings).

We play 3-4 cupcakes a year - all at night since they aren't televised. that is ~25% of our games which could drastically skew your statistics.

Let's assume you can factor those out of your analysis, (which you didn't) let's just look at LSU against ranked opponents. How many games against ranked opponents do we play in the day, and how many at night?

@Spirit of Dunson

This is a list of our games against ranked opposition for the past five years:

2004 Oct 02 #3 Georgia at Athens 2:30 p.m. L 16-45 Day

Over that period, we're 7-2 at night and 6-7 during the day against ranked competition. I counted a night game as any game that kicks off after six.

Not trying to publish a paper or anything, so if you want to control for anything else, you'll have to do it yourself.

-Hi 5-
I appreciate the effort! Good to see facts on the rant. Since you put some work into it, so will I.

I also looked at your numbers. I figured the other major factors would be the respective ranking, and the homefield advantage.

First the night/day comparison - as you pointed out, the winning percentage for those were 0.778 and 0.462 respectively. This creates a relative factor of 1.69 (winning percentage of night games divided by the winning percentage of day games). The greater this number the more a factor that variable plays.

If you separate by ranking, our winning percentage against opponents ranked 10-17 was 0.700, and against top 10 opponents was 0.500, creating a relative factor of 1.4.

Looking at the game location the winning percentage for home games was 0.667 and for away games was 0.538 - a relative factor of 1.24.

So based on this (albeit small sampling) analysis: the day/night variable played a more significant role than did the game location and relative opponent ranking.

FINALLY! Scientific evidence that we do better at night!

OK, two things; first:

I would personally take Erin Andrews every day of the week and twice each on Saturday and Sunday.

Second, wayyy too much splitting of hairs here. I think it is established that LSU plays better in Saturday night games in Tiger Stadium and the atmosphere is irreplaceable in Saturday night games in Tiger Stadium. Agreed? Now, if we are on CBS we are going to be playing in the afternoon. Right? So we want to be on ESPN.

If you are at the game, you want Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. If you are playing in the game, you want Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. And if you are watching the game, I think Mark Jones and Bob Davie are much better than Vern Lundquist and Gary Danielson. But thats my opinion. The other two are facts. Afternoon games in Baton Rouge piss me off.

Now THAT was unexpected! Nice work!

If I weren't so lazy, I'd pull more data (like you said, it's a small sample size). But I think that we can agree that we fair better at night than we do during the day.

No joke. We all know that we fare better at night, but I always chalked it up to the marque matchup that a day game usually entails. What was more interesting to me was the away/home factor.

Maybe with the 5 loss season, we can go back to Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

It cannot be denied that the feel of the Alabama game was VERY different when the sun went down in the 4th quarter.....the whole mood of the stadium changed and the momentum was going the Tigers way.....until JL threw the pick....
