I agree with that basically. The blocking was atrocious for most of his carries.

its hard for 5 guys to block 8 ...

I hear what you're saying, but that wasn't the case every time. Hell, on Jennings 2nd long pass (which was a great pass), he was being hit after about a second. That was a great pass with almost no time to throw. And that was a passing situation... Wisconsin replaced their front 7 from last year and we're supposed to have the best offensive line in the SEC (Herbstreet said he thought it was the best in the country). They were a little underwhelming last night. That's all.

I laugh when people say he isn't a horse.

Good bc when I said he wasn't, it was kind of just a stupid joke.

Hillard was as pedestrian as everyone else until the OL took advantage of their depleted DL. He'll carry the load till midseason.

Fournette came in on third down on the second to last drive to try and seal the deal and didn't, while Kenny had done so on the previous 3rd down, as well as the last one of the game. Give credit where it is due, Kenny has had some great games for LSU, and this was one of them.

You have to admit he looked a little more lean last night than in previous seasons. He's always had the skills but I thought he had a little more burst through the hole last night.

way more burst than he has had in past seasons. Running harder also.

Bottom line is we need to go with whoever is having their day on that certain game day. Magee, Fournette and Hilliard will all have their 100+ yard games this season and we need to ride whichever one or pair is tearing it up and in rhythm.

This.

The other 4 times he just ran it straight up the middle and looked for the first person to truck over. He went down on first contact every return IIRC.

I just rewatched the game. You're wrong.

Dear Lawd,

Another Kenny Hillard hater. I'm gonna bookmark this thread when he goes 1,000 yards. The kid is one of the elite backs out of high school. Just sit back and enjoy Mr. Hilliard blow up this year.

I just hope you are happy for him when he proves you wrong.

This.

Fournette continued to get chances later in the game, when Hilliard started to get rolling. He just didn't look that impressive.

Hell people, don't try to spin things. Fournette didn't look exceptional or unusually good last night. Didn't see him run away from anyone, break tackles, or break anyone's ankles with his moves. He looked eerily similar to Hilliard, a big guy with no moves to speak of. Difference is, Hilliard late in the game ran to where the holes were going to be, and Fournette was still trying to run where he saw things (and the things he saw closed down).

Hopefully Fournette gets his bearings in the next couple of blowouts, lord knows he should get his chances. He wasn't ready for this level yet, but he didn't need to be.

This is a knee jerk/simplistic reaction to what happened last night. No, we can not all agree. First of all, LSU was playing from behind, for most of the game which forced them to lean on more experienced players because there would be more emphasis on being able to run or pass out of any given play. Second, most of Hilliards success came after Wisconsin lost their NT, and Wisconsin started using more nickel personnel. Fournette would have been more successful against the defense Hilliard was seeing in the fourth quarter than the defense any of the backs saw through the first 3 quarters. This is a testament to the preparation of an exceptional opening game opponent. You can say what you want about talent level, but a lot can also be said for great coaching and precise execution. LSUs run blocking schemes were getting beat through 3 quarters of football. The other factor was the fact that LSU tried to come out and use their Iowa game plan and impose their will on Wisconsin, but Wisconsin had prepared for this, and it was a conservative approach(amd rightfullly so with such youth at key spots on offense), as LSU learns to gain trust in their quarterbacks and WRs it will allow them to be more aggressive vs opponents committed to ganging up on the run.

Right. He's a phenomenal talent but he's not ready to break out yet. He gets a couple of rent a wins to play against coming up, and that should help him.

Hilliard is the better RB at this point, may not be at the end of the year. LF still has some adjustments to make.

After one game?

I would be fine if it turns out that way, but I'd be surprised if it does.
