Can Someone Get LSU A Decent Quarterback? Please?

Deadspin 25
quote:
LSU has everything you could want in a football team: An imposing offensive line, a deep receiving corps, a Heisman-hopeful at running back, and a defense that returns six starters from a unit that ranked fifth in points allowed per game and 18th in defensive FEI a year ago. The only thing missing is a quarterback, and that’s the rub.
The quarterback situation in Baton Rouge is bleak, at best. Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris have both been slammed over the past year for being subpar quarterbacks, and it doesn’t take hours and hours of film study to figure out that neither of them are very good.
quote:
“I think he (Harris) got more reps by far. I’m not certain how much ground he made up. It will be something we look at when we get him in camp, something we’ll evaluate early and late.”
That’s a sad-face emoji re-imagined as a press conference soundbite.

Will LSU Do It?
Barring Jennings or Harris having some sort of awakening and figuring out how to be somewhat efficient under center, the Tigers will not do it. But they have Fournette and an amazing offensive line, so they’ll be fun to watch at the very least. Just have a backup channel to flip to on passing downs.

People still read deadspin?

At linebacker, LSU will miss departed Kwon Alexander and D.J. Welter

What’s even sadder is that Harris couldn’t do enough to slide in and definitively claim the starting gig, even when Jennings was suspended after being arrested for burglary. I mean, hear it from Les Miles yourself:
And the writer lists Teuhema as a starter at DE.
The writer of that article obviously has done very little research and has no idea what he's talking about

That's pretty unfair to Harris. He was highly recruited out of high school and played well outside of his lone start on the road. Hardly the first time a true freshman didn't play well on the road. But to say Harris showed some upside at times last year doesn't fit the narrative of "blah blah...LSU doesn't have a quarterback."

He could've at least thrown in a "but if one of them can somehow figure out, LSU could be in for a great season."

this guy obviously knows miles is a pretty truthful guy who is very open and honest about the going ons of his team.
sheesh....

Yeah no shite
What's even worse is that it was his job to research and write about LSU, and he still got some facts wrong.
You had 1 job to do...

I figure that's how I would sound writing about a team I didn't know much about, like Missouri or Minnesota. Pretty obvious he doesn't have a clue regarding Brandon Harris.

If I was as bad at my job as this writer is at his I'd be fired.

I just rewatched all the passes from the Auburn game. What I see from Harris is a bunch of freshman mistakes. Fireballing every pass leading to him missing guys wide open, leaving the pocket before he needed to, combined with an overall poor performance from the o-line. This was his first start, on the road in front of a loud crowd.
What I saw from Harris is a lot of correctable mistakes and he's had plenty of coaching since then. He can rein in the arm strength, put trust in his offensive line and not be so amped up for a start.

Anyone that thinks LSU will get good QB play is kidding themselves. Cameron is an awful OC and at that he's handcuffed

Also, it didn't help that the defense couldn't get a stop to save its life and Harris was forced to press.

How quickly we forget about the 2013 offense and QB play...

Ok, I'm just going to say it. Harris was the typical freshman that didn't do what was needed to start at QB last year. From not knowing the plays, to not being able to read a defense pre and post snap, to not playing within the pocket, etc. He relied on his talent to get him by and got injured at Auburn as well.
Harris was a nervous wreck against Auburn. I don't care what people say, he realized he was way in over his head once he stepped out there. Let's just say the moment was too big for him.
With that said, Harris is not Jennings, the guy who did show that he was pretty bad all year. Nor is he bad altogether just because of one start. Stop lumping the two together (I still think Jennings will improve though). Literally his one half against Auburn and Jeremy Johnson's one half against Arkansas is what people are considering to be the difference between a crappy player, and a heisman contender. Do you see how retarded that is? Stop basing his play, or LSU's 2015 passing game on last year, or the last couple of years. It took Cam a year to adjust. Last year was Cam's first year in 13 years, truly grooming a starter from a teenager (both Jennings and Harris). People forget, Aaron Murray was a redshirt freshman when he started in a pro style offense at UGA. Look at Matt Stafford's true freshman year at UGA, it was poor. Mett was pretty much another rookie QB that Cam polished up. A guy with college experience and experienced wideouts. This will be his first true QB he hand picked out of high school, and placed as starter. A guy with a little experience and a lot of talent.
Right now I'm not going to beat around the bush, if they truly open up the offense and fit it to Harris instead of the other way around, he will put up over 3000 total yards. He will put up over 30 total TDs. Waaay too much talent at his disposal (his own and all around him) for him not to. They've talked of all the things that they want to do, now we'll hopefully see it in action.
In less than 10 days.
