If he has started treatment then it sounds like he is going through radiation, or has received a dose of hormone therapy pre-radiation. I went through this treatment for Prostate Cancer two years ago and it is pretty easy to tolerate. I didn't miss a day of work. Radiation was Monday through Friday and I was typically in and out in 15-20 minutes.
Let's hope they caught it early and he'll have a good chance of a good outcome.

Cousin is an Oncologist and multiple men in my family have had prostate cancer
To expound on my comments from earlier
80% of men that live to the age of 80 will have prostate cancer at some point
The survival rate of prostate cancer is 99%
