Attrition candidates:

Ducote
Romero
Strall
Adams
Forshaq???

Add Dawson and I wouldn't be surprised at McKay

These are just thoughts I have 0 inside info. McKay just reminds me of Godfrey but with less opportunity on the mound. Dawson...well its going to be a loaded infield.

I would guess that for him to actually start a game at catcher would require Pap, Romero, Bryce Jordan, and Chris Reid to all be unavailable. Not including incoming guys like Rankin Woley, Nick Coomes, and Mason Templet.

I'm not sure if Romero will transfer, but if he does that could put us in a bind. We only have forshag and Rankin Woley on the bench, who will be a freshman, that will be capable of being a back up. I'm not even sure if Woley will play catcher either, some sites list him as a 2nd baseman

Then, he's a guy they can probably do without.

I can't imagine McKay going anywhere. They gave him every opportunity to be a big time contributor this season, and I don't think he had a clean inning in any appearance.

I think the same thing about Dawson. He's going to be a player for us. Assuming KRob and Cole leave, he's going to get every opportunity at one of those spots. You might see Chris Reid look to leave. With the Lochridge monster lurking, he may be the odd man out.

If given the opportunities, I think both of these turn things around ala Kramer

I don't understand or agree with the "Romero is gone" line of thinking.

You don't need to. I've continued to hear that he is a guy that could leave that you might not expect. Doesn't mean he will, but looking at his situation, you can see how it is possible.

What do you want? You don't agree. We got it. I've said it doesn't mean he will actually leave, just that he is caught with one year in a logjam. Not really all that controversial.

When is "some power" ever a bad thing?

If given the opportunity being the key. Loch coming back. Kramer likely coming back. Slaughter coming in. Dawson may have gotten his only shot. Still plenty of time for McKay, but that depends on how he feels. Is he a fighter or will he give up and try his hand at less competition.

Romero wasn't drafted and the only way he'd play next year is by transferring down, which would be foolish. He will be DH for us next year.

I could see Stallings leaving for the right number.

He wasn't the DH for us this year and apparently believes he doesn't play as well if he isn't in the field. Your first thought actually supports why he would transfer. He didn't play enough to get drafted.

Or the only shot he has at playing pro baseball is to have a spot gueabteed somewhere. If PM can give him that, he stays. If he can't, then he has to go.

Same with Adams & Ducote. They have 1 year to prove themselves and if they won't start they have to look out for their own

Why are you being so defensive?

You said if Forshaq leaves it would leave LSU with "basically only one catcher." That means you believe Romero would not be here next season.

With only about 60% of the at-bats as the starters, he still had the second highest number of RBIs. He had the highest slugging % on the team.

The only place I've read or heard that Romero is a candidate to leave is on the Rant. He continued to be used by Mainieri right up to and including yesterday's game as the starting DH. That usually indicates a player is in good standing. Not always, but usually.

He has said several times playing for LSU is a dream come true for him.

Why would he leave?

Because if Pap hits close to .300 hes your every day starter. Not saying this will happen, but he showed promise here lately. Even at just DH that doesn't give Romero as great of a shot at the draft. I'm sure the guy wants to catch. I'm not agreeing with either of you . I'm just saying I can see the argument.

Adams was a tall strong athletic looking power hitter. He hit a grandslam on his first at bat as a Tiger then got CPM'ed.

Never got a single chance during SEC play. Wished for him quiet a few times this season, but he was never given a chance.

Asked this in another thread...
Can ROmero be worked into 1B?? Let Deichmann play RF. He has decent speed....
That gets both bats in lineup and Romero into game mode...

I would guess that Bryce is mashing those pitchers who didn't make the travel squad of the other NCAA tourney teams. He'll have a chance to improve.

Because big, slugging catchers who have their eyes set on playing pro aren't going to sit behind a catcher that has the job locked up with only one year of eligibility left. I'm not implying I want him to transfer or anything, but you have to look at it from the player's point of view. I imagine he's going to want go somewhere and be the man so he can get drafted.
