The reason why many of our drives stalled the past 4 years or so is because we became one dimensional on 3rd down. So it's very relevant.
Do you understand how good LSU was on 3rd down last year?
Do you understand that JR had the highest passing efficiency rating in the BCS conferences in 2006?

My point is that Flynn was an excellent passer AND runner.
Flynn wasn't excellent at either. He was good at both.
I guess Manning, Brees, and Brady are predictable b/c they don't run.

but it boils down to how one defines a "Best" QB, and the ultimate deciding factor is this case is natty's. no?
Absolutely not. If so, it goes back the tried and true question: was Trent Dilfer better than Dan Marino?
The only people that think Flynn was a better QB at LSU than Russell are the biased Flynntards or folks that just hate Jamarcus. JR was better across the board but unfortunately faced the toughest road schedule for an LSU team in recent memory. For your reference, 06 LSU faced:
@ #3 Auburn
@ #5 Florida
@ #8 Tennessee
@ #5 Arkansas
Four top 10 road games in a season, and we won two of them. We probably should have won three, but I digress.

Flynn deserves a ton of credit for sticking around and waiting his turn, something you simply don't see nowadays as well.
No one is bashing Flynn, but this is along the lines of the general rationale behind the pro-Flynn crowd. He holds a soft spot in your heart because he "did things the right way." He's a likeable guy that waited his turn, and it paid off. A great story indeed, but you can't objectively say he was a better QB. No way, no how.

Seriously, think about it. 3rd and 6 with Met and Rus. What's your play call options? Let's see... pass, pass, and oh yeah... pass. Let's hope it all works out. With Flynn you didn't know if you were gonna get a designed qb scramble, pass, lat, etc, etc. It's pretty simple actually
So why are Brees, Manning, Brady, and Rodgers the best QBs on the planet right now?
3rd down conversion
2013 - 57.1 (1st in NCAA) - Mett
2007 - 46.6 (12th in NCAA) - Flynn
2006 - 48.3 (8th in NCAA) - JR

The 2013 offense is literally one of the best 3rd down conversion machines I have ever seen. I wouldn't be surprised if it was top-5 all time % wise.
I know and I'm proud of this and it speaks volumes about our players and staff. But we didn't win every game and I'm only noting a possible improvement.

So we led the nation in 3rd down conversion but struggled on 3rd down conversions?

Looks like the predictable offenses fared better on 3rd down

Simply amazing stat.
But, that just makes him the best recent LSU QB in that regard.

Stanford with Andrew Luck was the only team in the past 10 years that was better.
57.6% vs 57.1%
Too predictable b/c color_retard knew what was coming though

Such bullshite.
I loved JaMarcus as much as any other LSU fan. Like most of us, I had no real idea how good Flynn was until that 40-3 demolition of Miami. The following season proved that was no fluke.
Now, you're even trying to use the schedule to bolster your JM point? Two words...Virginia Tech.
I appreciate your loyalty to JM and all, but your own examples just make the case for Flynn even stronger.
Enjoying the banter though..

Great stats, so what's wrong with wishing he could run as well?

What are you in 5th grade? You have to resort to bashing LSU fans on an LSU comment board? Met was the best passer we've had, but it wasn't enough to win every game! IDC what you think or say, I'm not ok with losing! Especially to ala freakin bama! Now shut it! The end!

A much tougher call but have to go with JR on this one.

I don't think it's much difference if any between the two.
If Harris gets close to either I'll be more than happy.

Flynn threw for under 200 yards in that game and two TDs

We won every game under Flynn? Didn't realize Mett played defense too.
You brought up 3rd downs showing you had no idea what you are talking about

When you make claims that stats completely prove to be false and then stick to it, yes. You keep trying to move the goal posts.
quote:
Especially to ala freakin bama!
Yep, that was Metts fault.
Did JR ever lose to Bama?
quote:
Now shut it!
You should have done this from the beginning. Instead you talked out of your arse about 3rd downs.
Do you realize that most of the best QBs that walk the planet are pocket passers?

This has all the earmarks of the Lee/Jordanjefferson Miles qb controversary. Just wait until the 1st 3 and out. I see clouds on the horizon

So?
Flynn never really put up great stats, except of course for those put up in the course of LSU winning that 2007 natty.
