The National title game should feature Florida State versus Ohio State provided they both win. I do not think Auburn will pass Ohio State

Literally stopped reading right there. Can't imagine what the rest of the article stated.

Probably a lot of good information based on the data currently available, but you stopped reading so you'll never know.

When it comes to analyzing the BCS, I'll take lsumatt over that hack Brad Edwards every day.

Would love to see an LSU-Clemson rematch in the Chick-fil-a Bowl. Perhaps this time Les could get his team ready to play.

Auburn only 31 votes shy of Ohio State in recent AP poll (60 total voters). No, the AP poll is not included in the BCS standings but it is indicative of what will happen in the Coaches and Harris.

Auburn and Ohio State will be very close in today's BCS standings.

By the way if we go to gator bowl to play b1g #5 that would put

LSU versus Nebraska

Or Minnesota or Iowa.

But an apparent (new?) rule says the Cotton is obligated to take the loser of the SECCG if still available. See Rouge's thread that discusses this:

I was confused by this rule as well. But As I understand it now, I think it means that if the SECCG loser is passed on, it cannot slip lower then the "safety net" bowl. Therefore, if mizzou loses, the outback is still "higher" then the cotton because of east/west ties. If auburn loses, the cotton bowl is "higher" and would be obligated to take auburn if cap1 passes.

That is interesting. It would be nice if the SEC clarified the rule this week.

Lsumatt - what's your assessment after the coaches poll? Who come up at #2?

This is a quote from an article by Scott Rabalais about a week ago. He describes a scenario where South Carolina would potentially be the SECCG loser at 9-4

quote:

This year, the potential road block is the fact that the Cotton is contractually obligated to take the loser of the SEC Championship Game if it’s passed over as a BCS at-large team or the Capital One. Once every four years, the Cap One, Outback, Chick-fil-A and Cotton have to take turns as the “Safety Net Bowl.” And this year, it’s the Cotton’s turn, according to SEC and former LSU spokesman Herb Vincent. No way that happens, you say. Well, how about this scenario: Missouri loses Saturday to Texas A&M, putting South Carolina in the SEC Championship Game at 9-3 despite a nonconference loss by the Gamecocks on Saturday to archrival Clemson. South Carolina then gets hammered by Alabama (assuming a win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl) in Atlanta. Under that scenario, Alabama is 13-0 and BCS championship game-bound. Missouri and Auburn are both 10-2, with one likely headed to the Sugar Bowl and the other likely to the Cap One. The Outback could pick 9-4 South Carolina, but it prefers LSU or Texas A&M at 9-3. That leaves the Cotton to save a seat for the Gamecocks.

I was pretty surprised to see how close Auburn was to Ohio State. They are getting LOTS of #2 votes. I am guessing Ohio State is still #2, but not by much - it should be very, very close this week.

Good stuff as always, lsumatt.

One more thing to consider: LSU may not be an option for the Cap One. The new "safety net rule may over ride this - but, the Cap One used to be limited to the SEC CG loser or a team within one win of the SEC CG loser.

That would leave Auburn/Mizzou loser or USC for the Cap One.

We are definitely not going to Cap One. I just removed that from my post.

Yes, Cap One has to choose between the SECCG loser or SC and you want them to select the SECCG loser if you want Cotton. But I suspect they take USC, especially if Mizzou is the other option.

I agree with SC to the Cap One. They travel well and the Cap One typically will pass on the SECCG loser when they can.

If Mizzou loses, they might just be the Cotton selection - safety net aside. And I don't see the Outback taking Mizzou anyway.

LSU needs Mizzou to win and hope the Cap One wants Auburn over SC.

There is a lot working against LSU to the Cotton.

I think its the opposite. If auburn wins, I think LSU is locked into cotton. If Cap1 takes USCe, the outback will jump on a 10 win mizzou. If Cap1 takes mizzou, outback will take USCe and Cotton will take LSU as per usual east/west ties.

If mizzou wins, Cap1 has to pick between auburn and USCe. If they take USCe then auburn goes to cotton by default with the safety net rule and we go to Outback. If they take auburn (which I suspect they will) then normal east/west ties come in and Cotton gets LSU and outback gets USCe.

how many mizzou fans will travel to atlanta and then to tampa in a disappointment of a bowl (assuming a loss) within a month?

Much more reasonable to think that mizzou will travel much better to dallas....perhaps even better than lsu because we were just there
