Coaches Poll - LSU #14

BCS Bowl Predictions

National Title Game: Florida State versus Auburn
Rose: Stanford vs. MSU
Orange: Ohio State vs. Clemson
Sugar: Bama vs. OU
Fiesta: Baylor vs. UCF

LSU Bowl Scenario

Alabama will join Auburn in the BCS bowls leaving the Capital One Bowl to have their choice between South Carolina and Missouri. How they choose will have a big impact on LSU's bowl scenario.

My guess is the Capital One takes 10-2 South Carolina. The Outback Bowl then gets first crack at 11-2 Missouri being an SEC east team. If they take them, the Cotton chooses between 9-3 LSU and 8-4 A&M and they probably take LSU. However, the Outback may pass on Missouri since they are so far away and may not have huge TV appeal. Missouri would be then locked into the Cotton by the "safety net rule" and the Outback chooses between LSU, A&M, and 8-4 Georgia. I think they take LSU there as I doubt that pass on an 11 win Missouri team to take an 8-win team.

If the Cap One takes Missouri instead, conventional wisdom would say that the Outback would take 10-2 SC. But they played there last year and SC has made it very clear they don't want to go and would rather the Cotton. My guess is the Outback doesn't want a team that isn't excited about it and passes on them - again leaving LSU, A&M and UGA. Probably going with LSU.

If the Outback does pass over LSU for A&M or UGA, it goes to the Chicken. I think they know how upset LSU fans would be about it and pass sending LSU to the Gator.

Update at 4:00 pm - Looks like Outback against Iowa

Other things I have read indicate this as well. I didn't find anything that says this officially though.

Missouri playing in the Cotton would make sense because they're a former Big 12 school playing against an former rival. They would travel for this game as well. This is the same reasoning why A&M playing Oklahoma last year made a good fit. Which is why I think we'll play on a New Year's Day bowl.

I want whatever outcome that doesn't send Alabama to the NC game. Period.

the problem with this that the cap one bowl and the outback bowl would both have to pass on mizzou. Only if the rule the OP mention about the cotton having to take the loser is true than Mizzou will go Cap one or Outback (assuming they lose)

When is the last time a SECW team played in the Outback? I thought it had been years.

ETA: Auburn in 09 but before that 1996

The Outback is NOT at 11 eastern anymore- its on at 1 eastern- has been for last couple of years- exact same time as cap one.

CFN has aTm in the Cotton over LSU, which goes to Atlanta vs. Duke. I don't see the SEC office letting that happen. Also, does the Cotton really want a 4 lose team that is on a 2 game losing streak? I may be biased, but I don't see how there isn't a bold line drawn between the top 5 teams and top 5 bowls at 3 loses.
