re: Bottom line -- you can't win without QB play

I agree 1000% . We have to have a qb and we dont. Bottom line
Or maybe we do, and expecting a true freshman to understand all the intricacies and nuance of the QB position is a little far fetched. Hopefully, the coaching staff will give Harris some playing time over the next couple games. We've still got to win these next two games, but preparing for the next 2-3 years should also be important. I kinda have to laugh at everyone dogging Cam, after we spent all of last season blowing him for taking Mett from a kid with a powerful arm to a complete QB in a few months. Cam Cameron can still develop a QB.
As far as AJ is concerned, I just don't think he has the tools necessary to be an effective QB. He doesn't have the arm to make tough throws and the worst part is, he knows it and it affects his entire game. And I know you're saying, "Oh, Bob, Miles should've never recruited him in the first place". Well, all coaches have to go off of is high school film and camp performances, and AJ had some pretty good film and was an Elite 11 QB. He was also a top 10 PRO-style QB. It's a misconception that AJ is a dual threat QB. He's a west coast QB with the ability to get some yardage running. So the staff kinda stuck between between a rock and a hard place. Either keep playing the less talented, and I know this sounds extremely callous, expendable QB or the more talented freshman who has a more limited grasp on the offense and risk ruining his confidence.

If one bad game ruins a player's confidence, he's never going to perform at a high level consistently.

If you can answer this burning question with any amount of rational explanation I'm all ears.

The ugly reality is that except for inheriting Flynn and signing Mett because he had no other good options, Miles has failed in this area. It's not an indictment of his character, and it doesn't mean he should be fired. But it has limited -- and will continue to limit -- what he and his program can accomplish.
Glad some one else finally noticed. I have said this repeatedly. CLM cannot get a qB to save his life. Without one, and make no mistake, LSU does not have one at this time, the program is never going to win big. Never.
I agree that he should not be fired over it. But, what gives. How can he completely fail to get ANYTHING that resembles good qB play to come to LSU? Maybe he thinks it is just not that important, but the results speak for themselves.
This program has failed to win big because it has not had a qood QB that CLM has recruited and developed since he got here 10 years ago. If he cannot change this, he will never beat 'Bama.
Will he turn it over to Harris now that the offense is clearly failing because the QB cannot perform? I doubt it.

Not just one game, but multiple bad games. Harris has bad footwork. Go back and watch the Auburn game. His feet where all over the place and many of those overthrows were due to his poor footwork. That's not something that's gonna be cleaned up in a couple weeks. That's going to have be addressed in the off-season. So I'm fine with going with the lower risk QB this season and protecting Brandon and letting him grow and learn.

I will believe CLM can do something with QB play if and when the man shows up and does something really nice.

Agree, although last night it wasn't just the quarterback that hurt us in the passing game.

I have said this for a LONG time. Glad the admin will now step up and criticize CLM for this giant weakness. Hope that Harris get a legit shot to play. It should start with the next game. If he is not ready, then shame on the STAFF.

So because of one year of sub par QB play were going go ignore that Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, and Joe Flacco credit Cam Cameron with helping to make them great QB's? He obviously made Mett much, much better.

Two weeks to prepare for a home game against Bama, and our QB and offense looked like total garbage?
This. This is the mark of a great coach. The mountain labored and brought forth....a mouse. I just don't get it. I think LSU gets tight sphincters just thinking about playing 'Bama. They are in the Tigers' heads. Too bad really. How can any team expect to win tough games with NO passing. None? It will never happen.

You'll always have drops. Landry and OBJ had issues with drops early in their career, Bowe did as well. Hell, Cooper dropped a couple last night.
The biggest drop was Jones in overtime, but...Jennings could have easily made up for that by running the ball instead of throwing a toss up in the end zone in OT. He had 20 yards of green in front of him.
The passing game problems are FAR more than drops or bad passes. It's the inability to read a defense, locking on to receivers and making poor choices with the football.

If Harris is not ready this staff ahs shite for brains. Kyle Allen and Deshuan Watson both have a way more complex passing offense than LSU and they are doing just fine

Of all the QBs that transferred the last two years from LSU. One of them had to be better than this
Posted on 11/9/14 at 12:28 pm to MorningWood
Lost Rettig obviously. Can't really count Keil. I know there have been other pro style QBs who never took the field.
It's a definite pattern.

thats such a fricking stupid bottom line when we were up 13-10 with 50 second and prostyle kicked a ball out of bounds, when all they had to do was get a field goal.
