Interesting he says Walker Howard never would have started a game at LSU.

Never could understand why fans woud be upset and criticize a third team QB for looking out for himself. They can't all play.

Pretty sure that Hurley is an EE and will be able to go through spring practice. After CBK gets a look at him this spring he can always look for another backup in the portal if Hurley underwhelms.

Hurley is only 16 coming to campus. He shouldn’t see the field for a year or two to be honest so he can fill out his body in the weight room and get used to the speed of the college game.

Summed up: Sloan and staff really like their QB room. Sloan has been actively looking, but will not bring in a QB expecting to start, get majority of reps or wanting big NIL money.

I'm about as comfortable with Nuss as any presumptive 1st-year starter. I like his arm, his experience in the program, his age (more on that later), his moxie/confidence, and how engaged he's been the past 2 years, how he celebrates when Jayden and the team does well. He's got a lot to like, and with the Kelly/Denbrock/Sloan triumvirate having 9 months to build on his strengths and work on his weaknesses, I think he'll be as set up for success as any "unknown" 1st year starter I can remember (not counting transfers).

Absolutely agree with this. He's got good size, athleticism, I love that he was a 3-sport star in 5A, and haven't seen it up close, but heard he's a good leader. I think he's gonna eventually make Hurley the odd-man out. He's just too young, and always will be, and it makes a difference. I think skipping a year is going to prove to be a mistake. At LSU anyway. Maybe he proves me wrong and is the outlier, but I think his success will wind up being at another school. And I hope he has success, seems like a great kid.

Absolutely not indeed. For as much as I think Collins will wind up being good, I do think he needs time. Being a 3-sport player, which I think is great in the long-term, probably set him back from a development/skills perspective. I'd feel more comfortable if he had to play in '25. With our schedule in '24, if God forbid Nuss were to tear his ACL in Vegas against SC, I think we're basically having to punt on the season.

Do I think he would do a reasonably good job? I do.

I don't know what "reasonably good" means. I think 7-5, maybe even 6-6, would absolutely be on the table with redshirt freshman Rickie Collins starting the whole season.

Me too. And I don't think Nuss should just be coronated because he's waited his turn. Kelly's job is to make the '24 team as good as possible. BUT, he's got to balance what's best for the '25 team as well. But just going back to '24, if he we brought in a guy that was undoubtedly better than Nuss and had to promise him the job--somebody that would almost certainly make us better in '24 than Nuss (if that person even exists), then Nuss would transfer and we'd be stuck in the same position of being an ACL away from redshirt freshman Rickie Collins having to start the entire season. Not that that should prevent us from taking this hypothetical QB, but it is a pretty delicate balance, Kelly and co. have to figure out. I loved his answer about being transparent and having honest conversations with all the QBs on the current roster, and even the guys they're recruiting. I think that's the only way it works. And I trust them to make the right decision when it comes to that room.

Their actions are that they haven't entertained any top tier QB transfers, only complimentary pieces that have playing experience.

I saw both him and Arch Manning vs LCA. Woodlawn lost 33-6 but not because of Collins, he carried that team. 14-19 for 135 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int. I think the Int was on a tipped ball but I honestly don't recall the details so I am not sure why I think that. He had 70 yards rushing on 16 carries. Made multiple throws under duress, LCA lived in the backfield, and a few off-platform while scrambling.

Arch looked awful vs LCA. Newman lost 49-7. Arch was 7-17 for 44 yards 0 TDs 1 INT then was pulled from the game. 5 carries for 27 yards and their lone TD. That was the playoff semifinal game in div III for 2021.

That is what I am talking about except I would expect him to replace Nuss mid-season if there were an injury.

Might not win us games but wouldn't cost us games either.

No such thing as a complimentary piece QB. There’s only 1 ball. You either play or you don’t.

Maybe complimentary wasn't the right word, but I think you know what I meant. They want a QB that has playing experience that can fill in if Nuss goes down or maybe if he struggles. Otherwise, they would have gone after someone like Dante Moore or the many other higher tiered QBs that hit the portal.

This is a sign of not having leverage because they don't think they could get who they wanted in the portal. We are getting beat for recruits and now are more worried about losing the ones we have. Same reason defense is boasting about returning players.
