If athleticism is a combination of size/speed/quickness/strength/coordination, then as much as it pains me, Ben Simmons is at the top of the list. Not many can match his measurables.

Now as far as significance in an LSU jersey combined with athleticism, give me PP7 in football or Shaq in basketball

Tyrann Matthieu also gets an honorable mention.

No. He is a great athlete but there have been far better athletes at lsu than TM7. What sets tm7 apart is his instincts and football iq.

hand-eye coordination is probably the most important trait in being a good athlete. And baseball requires the most of any sport.

No.

Hand eye coordination has shite to do with being big, fast, quick and the ability to jump high.

A great athlete on a baseball field will trump great athletes in most other sports. The skill set it takes to play such a difficult game is off the charts.

Just not true. Hockey, soccer, whether you like them or not, are probably more difficult to play.

You are correct...
Next time I'll have to clarify the definition of athlete
But..."The Pistol" ....."was athletic, but what set him apart was his unworldly skill"
And He does not belong in this conversation?
Blasphemy!
1) Pistol Pete
2) Billy Cannon
3) Tommy Casanova
Both Cannon and Casanova played both ways and became Dentists!!!!

then as much as it pains me,

Why would it pain you?

I will never understand the hate for Simmons by some lsu fans. He couldve went any where in the country and chose lsu. He cant help that Hornsby got hurt and that Johnny Jones couldn't control TQ. If anything be mad at Quarterman for being a selfish player.

Forgot about Mike Miley...saw that someone else posted about him. That guy was one hellofa special athlete. Terrific quarterback in an era when only dropbacks were the thing, he could do it all. And his baseball career would have been equal to Todd Walker.

You know what's funny about all these posts are people think that Peterson and other athletes were so much faster than Cannon and Casanova and that is just as far from the truth is there is anything. Both were as or more athletic than Peterson and both were faster. Peterson was quicker, but both were stronger. in fact both were as fast as LF7. Track fast. . In fact Casanova was bigger than Patrick Peterson. So if you want to judge athletic ability you got to show all of the facts such as the fact that both Casanova and Cannon played both ways including kicking for Cannon. Both of these men were big guys too. Look at their hight and weight. Yet what is missing is both did other things like kick or pass or throw the shot put at a very high level in track.

You freaking people don't have a clue.

I'm old enough to remember Tommy Casanova!
No football player at that time played both ways at the level he did!!! No football player played both ways!
He was drafted by the Cincinatti Bengals and was an all pro safety !!!
Defensive Back and Runninning back at LSU !!!

You can literally be the least athletic person on the field amd yet have great hand eye coordination and be one of the most productive players in baseball. Stop kidding yourself.

You remain a fool that can't read. We are talking about great athletes, not "the least athletic person on the field". Just because you can't hit a 95 mph baseball and your a fat arse doesn't mean great athletes don't play baseball. Baseball is the hardest skill of any major sport.

Michael Jordan couldn't hit. Neon Deion couldn't hit. Adrian Peterson can't hit either.

but the 1st sentence might be the dumbest shite I've ever heard.

Then you haven't read many dumb shite in your life. If baseball were so easy the great athletes in basketball and football would be able to play it, right? The high majority cannot. The great athletes in baseball would have a better chance playing another sport than others trying to play baseball. That's a fact.

To play devil's advocate, how many on roster do you think could lace up and play in the NBA or even D-League?

Not many but more than NBA players could play in MLB. Running fast and jumping high are not the only components for being considered an athlete. Reactions, hand eye, agility, strength, power, explosiveness are measurables as well.

Chad Jones is a good suggestion. Few in sports history have been able to accel at two high end sports. A good athlete is good in anything not just one action in one sport.
