Points: 19.4, 3rd in SEC
Assists: 5.1, 4th in SEC
Rebounds: 12.1, 1st in SEC
FG%: 57.1%, 5th in SEC
Steals: 1.8, 2nd in SEC

NOBODY in the history of the SEC has ever finished a season in the top 10 in all 5 of of these categories.... EVER. Say what you want about him. Say he can't shoot a jumper outside of 12 feet. Say he is an average free throw shooter. The stats SAY that he is THE MAN when it comes to being one of, if not the best overall players in SEC history... AS A TRUE FRESHMAN!

If Blakeney was shooting all season like he is right now, Simmons would average 7 assists a game. And some people actually think he needs more time in college.......

Also put these numbers up with the SEC way down talent wise.

My bad. I meant finish in the top 10 in these 5 categories. Will change.

Then this must be a really bad team with a really bad coach if we have the best player in college ball who is also the best sec player ever statistically.

People just don't get it. Ben Simmons bucked the trend....he went to a non-dominant school. But sure, let's look at others that compare

Anthony Davis. His team included these players who at least spent 1 year in the NBA: Darius Miller, Terrence Jones, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, Doron Lamb. They had 7 players drafted off of that team.

Kevin Durant: He had 1st rounder DJ Augustin and AJ Abrams (and oh, they lost 10 regular season games and lost in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament...)

Michael Beasley: K-State lost 11 regular season games and went to the 2nd round of the tourney.

Buddy Heild is the best player in college basketball...Simmons is next.

CJ was better. Also, he wouldn't have panicked at the end of the Oklahoma game. great players drive the close ones home. You're missing that stat.

Chris Jackson's 1988-89 LSU team went 20-12, 11-7 SEC and first round NCAA loss.

I like me some Mahmoud, but people need to understand LSU basketball history. Pistol Pete never even made the NCAAT.

I seriously doubt we played a weak schedule in CJ's first year. Dale didn't load up the schedule with cupcakes.

Simmons is awesome...but without KH and CV his team is barely over .500

So you are saying that Ben Simmons as a freshman is better than CJ?

You realize you are talking about a time when there were zero one and dones... Zero... I like me some Ben Simmons, but he isn't going against Horry and Sprewell at Bama, Allan Houston at Tenesee, Gerald glass at Ole Miss, 40 minutes of hell at Arkansas, etc, etc.

This is a different league and Ben shouldn't and wouldn't try to hold CJ's jock strap.

No, but they're in the same category for sure.

I agree the game was better back then.

Simmons stat filling numbers rival CJ's scoring numbers. CJ was an All-American as a Freshman, Simmons will be as well. CJ was #3 OA pick after his SOPH year, Ben will go #1 OA.

Point being, one guy can make a huge difference, but it's not all the difference in CBB.

Nothing more deplorable than someone who steals others ideas or intellectual property and passes it as his own
