Also, in Midtown, 101 Cantina (a new place) is a lot of fun. Right across from campus on University and has a huge patio area in the back. We always go there for happy hour.

I strongly agree -- love that place!

Also - I refuse to endorse the Copper Monkey. The owner is a gigantic douche who looks over his balcony and calls the towing company when he sees people parked in that shopping center who don't realize they can't park there

Good Lord. I was going to that place every other year for away games since around 1991. I can't believe it's still around.

"How long will it take me to drive from Jacksonville airport to Gainesville? Any short cuts?"

I295 east around to Hwy 21 south. Take 21 all the way through Keystone Heights and turn right on Hwy 26. Follow this into Gainesville...this road runs right through downtown and then past the stadium. About 2hrs.

This is how I would make the drive. It's a bit quicker. Keeps you off of Blanding Blvd, which has a lot of traffic.

Yes. Not nearly as many traffic lights because you circumnavigate Orange Park/Middleburg.

I would also recommend the hawaiian pork quesadillias at The Swamp.

Which they ripped off from the Grand Wailea in Maui. Those pork quesadilla are better than the duck quesadillas at Blue Coyote

leave early if you are driving anywhere, and watch where you park. the tow trucks will be out in full force.

No shite. I remember parking my rental car pulled in vs. driving in which kinda made me face the wrong direction in a fricking parking tower mind you. When I get back to my car I was issued a parking ticket by campus security which was a $50 fine. I promptly balled it up and discarded right out the window.

So, definitely heed UFownstSECsince1950's warning. It takes road trips like this to make you really appreciate what we have at TS.

Good post very informative. What are the rules about setting up tailgating tents on campus and near the stadium. Is it like LSU where pretty much anything goes and you can set up anywhere you find or are thing different? Basically I'm going to the game but didn't book a hotel. I have a camping tent and I was wondering if camping out the night before the game was frowned upon or would we have no problem?

I lived there for a year while doing my postdoc at UF. Satchel's Pizza is fun if you are bringing kids - not close to campus at all, but would be good for a Friday night outing. Big Lou's downtown is good for pizza too. The Top is a funky cool restaurant with good drinks if you're looking for quality over quantity. Drangonfly Sushi is the best in town. El Indio on NW 13th is great for morning-after hangover chips and queso. Used to drink at Market st. Pub but it closed, as someone else said earlier. That's all I got. See ya'll at the tailgate! I'll be making the drive down from Cockland for this one....

I combined all three threads into one. I would read one post and then post a response. When I got to the end of the thread... it exhibited thread-killed type tendencies because I realized I posted three times in a row.

Mother's Pub is another cool place to go grab a beer. They have pretty good burgers and a bunch of TVs. would be a good place to grab a bite on friday night or saturday for lunch before heading to campus. It is just down the road from the stadium on University Drive.

The third area is between Downtown and Midtown. I rarely go anywhere in this area, as it seems to be full of places geared towards vegetarians and such.

I know what you're saying but I have to let the persecution complex kick in and say that I'm a vegetarian and I pretty much will drink anywhere where there's cheap beer

I was mostly referring to all of the restaurants in that stretch. for all of us carnivores, there is only so much tempah and tofu we can take.

If you want Abita, head to Boca Fiesta downtown, although be warned it'll be full of hipsters. Also, the BBQ at Pearl's in Micanopy is pretty good.
