Batting lineup needs tweaking

I have been saying this for months now. Why would you not move Cole up in the lineup if he is one of your best hitters? You should give your best hitters more opportunities to bat during the year and in each game. Too many times this season we have had statistically our worst hitter at the plate (8 hole hitter) and runners in scoring position. This has happened again last night. Just because the lineup is working doesn't mean it can not be even better.

Glad Coach didn't listen. Months ago we probably didn't have a shot at hosting a regional and now we're a national seed one win away from hosting our own Super.

You never know how changes in the lineup might affect a players head and baseball is an incredibly mental and superstitious sport.

Freeman has scored 43 runs on the season for a reason. Leave him right where he is.

That is a lame excuse. So you are saying batting one of the best hitters in the lineup 9th is better than moving him up in the lineup? If you have watched the games, then you would realize last night Pap was up to bat twice with bases juiced and that situation would not be better than Cole in that position. If you disagree then you are also disagreeing with Ben McDonald and everyone else who follows this team.

The problem with moving Cole to lead off is that he is an exceptional fast ball hitter and a below average breaking ball hitter. He sees a lot more fastballs in the 9-hole than he would at lead off.

Our fans believe in the stupid second leadoff bullshite that Tony Larussa made up that the numbers don't support. Instead of getting your best hitters more ABs and your worst ones less, they like the idea of Pap killing rallies in the 8 hole.

Freeman scoring runs is not the problem. We actually need in a better position to drive in runs. The top of the lineup bats after him. He should have a lot of runs scored. If Freeman batter before Fraley instead, then he would have even more runs scored. Scoring runs is not the same as driving in runs. We need Freemen to be in a position to bat more.

I think it's time to move Robertson to leadoff honestly

I agree. These guys think everything Maneri does is right. Just move your worst hitter down to 9th like 99% of all other teams do. Freeman needs to have more swings and he won't get it batting 9th.

I think Duplantis turns it around tonight. I'd leave him where he is. I wouldn't mind switching Kramer and Fraley. Fraley seems to have found some of his power lately.

Not to mention we have our worst arm in right field. we can not even throw a runner out from 200 feet. No way a runner should be able to tag from 90 feet away and not be nailed at the plate. Another issue I see and all this came into play last night. I guess people do not believe in putting the players in the best position to give your team the best chance to make a play. This cost us 2 runs again last night as well.

We are riding with outfield coverage, not arms. It has been that way since we had 17 first basemen and catchers on the team that one time and had Katz having to play centerfield.

I guess you're just going to ignore the point UpToPar made then?

You do understand that Freeman's approach changes completely if he gets moved up, right?

So why not bat Pap 9th? If anyone needs the help of seeing better pitches, it is him.

FTR: I don't believe you overmanage this game. I'd go with the lineup that has brought you here instead of randomly changing it like we did last year in Omaha when we panicked.

I never said move Freemen to leadoff. Easiest fix is to switch Pap and Freemen in the lineup. You want Pap batting with bases loaded with 2 outs or less or Freemen? Well we scored zero runs last night in that scenario twice last night.

The entire reasoning behind putting a 2nd leadoff in the 9 hole is to turn the lineup over with runners on base for the top.

You don't like it and I get that. However, it's worked, as evidenced by LSU's lead-off hitter only having 2 fewer RBI than the 3 hole. Not to mention the 2 hole, which traditionally is used to move runners, not score them, having 30+ RBi as well.

We had zero hits with the bases loaded last night but Pap drew a bases loaded walk to bring in one run.
