to sorta answer the first poll i don't think this team will ever be a team like football and baseball where every year we are in the top 25 i think we can have 3 4 year stretches but i don't think we will ever be like the Kentucky's the Tennessee's the dukes UNCs name any good top 15 type team. I think lsu could become a consistent top 30 team and make the tourny 4 out of 5 years and always make some post season.
I think it will take 2 years to make it back to being in contention for the SEC title and 5 6 years to be a consistent good program. maybe longer

Beatles and t20 answer me this one question. All I want to know is if Brady is so good why did he have to go to Arkansas State. To defend this you say look at Tubby and spurrior. Man you are comparing a Sun Belt school to a Big 10 and SEC school. All I want to know is why he hd no other options. Simple question. If he was so great why did he have to go to the Sun Belt. Say negatiger because can't answer that one question.

Obviously, you have already seen my answer, before. When a coach gets thrown out for no good reason, many times there are no other great opportunities available. You can either take something that is available, or you can sit it out and hope something comes along before you are forgotten. Visor Boy and Tubby Smith went from one of the top schools in their sport to wastelands in their sport. Fulmer has decided to sit it out unless and until something he really wants comes along. He is still sitting. Brady took something that was available, just like Visor Boy and Tubby. You can throw Tubberville into that category, also. The step down for Brady is no worse than for Visor Boy and Tubby Smith. They won multiple conference titles and a NC at premiere schools. Now they are in wastelands. Brady won 2 (really 3) conference titles and no NC. All three of their come downs were about equal.
P.S. Get it straight, I am the NEGATIGER DETECTOR. You are the NEGATIGER !

Are you saying you played for Brady at LSU?
Yes I am.

I don't have any more idea whether or not Brady had any other offers. I don't know whether he was interviewed for other jobs. Neither do you or anyone else on this board. Anything you say is simply speculation.
So I am going to speculate. Brady inherited a moribund program that had deteriorated out of control. The program was under NCAA investigation which led to teh imposiiton of draconian sanctions. The effort it took for Brady and staff to rebuild the program to a competitive level was incredible. Whether you like Brady or not you have to agree that the obstacles he faced were more than at least 99% of any other coaches at his level.
The administration was less than supportive. The decision to delay the long promised practice facility and basketball operations center in favor of building a new women's siftball field was the most egregious example.
The continuous raid on talented players by the NBA created instability. Perhaps a more established power can overcome these issues. LSU was not at that level.
I believe Brady was simply burned out and he needed to separate from LSU as much as LSU needed to go in another direction. Taking a step back to a less pressurized situation will be a good thing for him. He still gets severance pay from LSU while earning aliving at his chosen profession. It also gave him an opportunity to be relatively close to his family in Mississippi and his kids in Baton Rouge.
If he achieves a level of success at Arkansas State other opportunities will occur and he will be a better coach for his tenure at LSU and at ARkansas Stte.
Brady made mistakes and mad his situation worse at times. His relationship with the lesser talented or experienced players certainly could have been better. His public outburst at failure of players to execute was not helpful for his image.
No matter what you or anyone wants to say about him the program had some incredible accomplishments, more than any one could have expected to occur in a ten year span after his hire in 1997.
I am convinced that he will coach again in a major conference if he wants.

I guess you don't want to say who you are, so maybe you can tell me this. In the last year you played, how many minutes did you average per game in playing time? Also, did you leave before your eligibility was up for any reason other than going to the NBA?

Brady's HC jobs outside of LSU
Samford
Arkansas State
Enough already, the dude is clearly not a big program coach. The entire time he was at LSU we never had to worry about a better program coming and taking him. He simply was one of the few coaches we could get to come to LSU under sanctions to start out. He should of been a short term solution until we could of gotten a coach who could handle building and sustaining success at a bigger program. We simply held onto him for a few too many years.

You should ask whether he and Jaime Lloreda exchange Christmas cards.

I am pretty sure LSUBEATLES and Brady exchange bodily fluids.

But my question is simple: How do we get to be a consistent top 25 team?
And the answer is simple.
Your fans have to care.
What other university in the country values its baseball program over their basketball program?
In terms of resources and fan interest, basketball is the #3 sport at LSU. That's why we'll never be a consistent top 25 program.

Only in your alternative lifestyle fantasies. You never did tell me if that's you in your avatar. If it is, I can understand your obsession with the alternative lifestyle. If that's not you, and you chose that as your avatar, I can even MORE understand your obsession with the alternative lifestyle!!

We're seeing why john brady was fired. Yet another hugely disappointing season where we have a losing SEC record. Trent already has us on the right track with his 2010 class.

You know as well as I do this year is a direct result of Brady's recruiting, or lack there of, planning for the future in his last few years.
It baffles me why you think Brady was so good. The dude was the most inconsistent coach in the nation. He backed up a couple SEC titles with 8 out of 11 seasons without a winning SEC record. That's pathetic. We're LSU, we can do much better than that. Just look what Dale Brown did. This is a school that can be consistently pretty good...and one that doesn't have to go through so many years of being the laughing stock of the SEC.

Spin doctor. Not only do I not know that, nobody with a brain knows that. All that had to be done in the last 18 months was bring in 2 All-American types, and this team would be fine. Brady did this like changing his underwear. You're spinning out of control !!

T20, nice post regarding Brady and the circumstances which led to him being the coach at Arkansas State. However, I do think he will have to win a couple of NCAA tourney games, and perhaps reach the Sweet 16 in order to get the big schools looking at him again. Based on the last sentence of your post, I would guess you think that he will do just that.

Yeah that really worked out great for him too...with ALL THOSE WINNING SEC SEASONS
